LITTLE THINGS
01. October 1988
_________________________________________It was a rainy day in Derry, Maine. The windows had fogged up with condensation from the many raindrops landing at the same time that are loud enough to hear them hitting the ground. It was grey and cloudy skies, the perfect day to sit and do nothing. Although 6 year old children sadly don't think that way.
Lillian Denbrough was sitting in her twin brother's bed, sick with a cold and feeling like she's gonna die. Bill was at his desk folding a piece of sketchbook paper into a boat for their little brother Georgie to play with outside.
Their father was at work, her dad was a carpenter and mother was an elementary school teacher but since it's a Saturday, she just ran to get groceries, so they were responsible for watching Georgie.
Well more like Lillian was in charge of watching him cause bill was sick, although she was sicker and bill offered to do it, but their mother said no and that it was Lillian's responsibility. And oh did Lillian's mother love her sons, well of course she loved Lillian too but just, not as much.
"Are you sure I won't get in trouble Lills?" Georgie asked the girl in bed. Georgie loved his sister, she was his best friend in the whole world, and he made sure everyone knew it.
Lillian's walls were covered in papers Georgie gave her, whether it was a spelling test he got 100% on or a picture of a dog that was either taken straight out of a coloring book or hand drew, it was still up on her wall no matter what. Even though if it's a drawing you can feel the wax from the crayons by just holding the paper, it was up anyways.
"Georgie I'm sure you won't get in trouble with mom or dad I promise, if dad tries saying anything I'll convince him to let you off the hook okay?" Lillian said reassuringly, trying to ease the boys nerves a bit. While Lillian's mom loves the boys more than her, her dad loves her just as much as he loves the boys.
"Okay Georgie, go get the wax" bill said to him, and Georgie's face dropped.
"That's in the cellar..." Georgie said, petrified. He hated that damn cellar, it scared him shitless.
"You want your boat to float don't you?" Bill asked him, stuttering as he spoke, trying to convince his brother to go and get it and that he'll be fine.
"Here Georgie how about this, I'll go with you to go get the wax okay?" Lilly said, getting up from her spot in Bills bed and motioning for Georgie to follow her.
She led the boy to the cellar and he grabbed the wax and ran up the stairs when he heard thunder cause he got scared, Lilly laughed and followed him up.
Lilly got back in Bills bed and got comfy again while Bill painted the wax on the boat, and when it was done he handed it to his brother who was smiling.
"There ya go, she's all yours captain." He said while he handed it to him and Georgie looked at him confused.
"She?" Georgie asked, confused on why he just called paper she.
"You always call boats she Georgie" Bill explained, giving him a hug, after bill let go, Georgie ran to Lilly and jumped on bills bed to give her a hug too.
"Byee guyssss I love youuu" he said running out the door.
"We love you too, be safe!" Lilly said turning around to lay on her side and Bill laid down too shortly after.
"Why is he so scared of the cellar?" Bill stuttered as he asked his sister about his brothers fear.
"Billy, he's a 6 year old who still thinks monsters are real, give him a break" she said half asleep, her eyes closed but still awake, you could hear her congestion by her voice.
It had been about an hour when there was a knock at the front door of the Denbrough home, it woke Lillian up so she walked down the stairs and down the hallway to the front door.
When she opened the door, there was a police officer standing on the porch under an umbrella.
"Hi officer James, what can I do for you?" Lilly asked the man at the door, who had a somber look on his face.
"Hi Lillian, um I have some really bad news and I see your parents aren't home yet, my friends at the station are calling them about this, is your brother home?" officer james rambles a bit.
"Um yeah Bills home, BILL COME HERE!" She yelled half way through her sentence to get her brothers attention.
And soon enough, here comes Bill walking down the stairs. His hair was all over the black, his t-shirt was all wonky, and eyes half closed.
"Officer James?" He said, rubbing his eyes before the cop spoke again.
"Um Lilly, Bill I'm so sorry to tell you this, but your brother is missing." He started and Lilly's face dropped and her eyes started to well with tears, Bill was silent.
"and also, we have reason to believe he's dead or seriously hurt, the last place he was seen, there was blood in the water, I'm so sorry." He finished.
"Um, thank you for telling us officer" Lilly choked out while bill was silent.
"But don't worry Lilly, Bill, we'll still look for him, I promise." James finished before giving his condolences one last time and turning away back to the cruiser and driving off.
