The feeling of having to hide online friends

In the world of online friends I roam,
A place where I can truly call them my own.
But to my parents I must keep it all unknown,
For they believe my friends must be shown.

They think my friends are not real,
Unless they talk to my parents and reveal
Their true identity, but that's not the deal,
So I keep my online friendships concealed.

I laugh and chat with them every night,
But during the day, they vanish from sight.
To my parents, it's a secret I must keep tight,
For they wouldn't understand, try as I might.

So I pretend I have just one friend at best,
Hiding the world of online pals in my chest.
But in truth, my circle is wider than the rest,
Even if my parents would find it a jest.
