(whispering) Did you hear? Katie's ex-boyfriend, that rich lawyer Joseph Baumann, is back in town.
JANINE:
(nodding) Yeah, I heard. They were spotted together at that fancy new restaurant on Fifth Avenue.
PETER:
(smirking) Can't say I'm surprised. The guy's got money and looks. It's hard to compete with that.

PECK:
(raising his voice) I heard Peter and Janine talking about your ex, Joseph. They said you were seen together at a fancy restaurant. Are you still seeing him?
KATIE:
(shocked) What? No! We ran into each other by chance, and he invited me for a quick coffee. That's it, I swear.
PECK:
(doubtful) It's hard to believe you'd choose me over someone like him.
KATIE:
(softly) Walter, look at me. I chose you because I love you, not him. He's my past, and you're my present and future.
Peck paces back and forth, his mind racing. The jealousy and insecurity have him tightly wound.
PECK:
(stubbornly) I can't do this, Katie. I'm done.
KATIE:
(tearfully) Walter, please don't do this. You're making a mistake.
PECK:
(colder) Maybe it's a mistake, but it's my mistake to make.
With that, he turns on his heel and storms out, leaving Katie stunned and heartbroken.

The firehouse is bustling with activity. Peck walks in, making sure it's a day Katie isn't there. The guys notice his presence, especially Peter.

PETER:
(serious) It's a shame you guys broke up. I thought you were better than the rest of the snakes working in those government buildings. I'm not saying you're my favorite person, not by a long shot, but you're close enough.
PECK:
(surprised) Did we come full circle?
PETER:
(smiling) We will, if you make up with her.
Peck is taken aback by Peter's unexpected words of encouragement. He nods, deep in thought.

(sincerely) Katie, I'm sorry. I was an idiot. I let my jealousy get the best of me, and I almost lost the best thing that ever happened to me.
KATIE:
(softly) I was hurt, Walter. But I understand. Can we move past this?
PECK:
(nodding) Yes, if you'll have me back. I want to make this work, Katie. I love you.
KATIE:
(smiling) I love you too, Walter.
They embrace, holding each other tightly, the tension and hurt slowly melting away.
PECK:
(whispering) I want us to be serious, Katie. Let's move in together. No more secrets, no more misunderstandings.
KATIE:
(teary-eyed) I'd love that, Walter. Let's do it.
