Today marked Shubman's debut as captain, but before I delve into captain's performance, let me summarise the match. We won the toss and elected to field first. We had three debutants: Dhruv, Abhishek, and Riyan. Our bowlers were dominant over Zimbabwe's batters. At one point, Zimbabwe was at 90/9, but Madande, one of their bowlers, pushed their total to 115/9.
Bishnoi was outstanding, claiming 4 wickets, including a wicket-maiden over. Abhishek was dismissed for a four-ball duck, Riyan scored 2 runs, and Dhruv managed 6 or 7 runs. Although disappointing, this was their debut, so it's understandable.
Rutu and Rinku's performances were disappointing. Bishnoi tried to add to the scoreboard but was bowled out. Mukesh was dismissed for a zero, and Khaleel didn't contribute any runs. Surprisingly, Avesh, a bowler, showed promise, scoring around 16 runs but was eventually dismissed.Washington impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 24 runs. However, Zimbabwe's bowlers were too strong for us. In our Indian batting line-up, only three players reached double digits: Avesh , Washington , and

Shubman Gill, who scored 31 runs. Shubman was on the crease for most of the innings but lacked a steady partner to build a partnership. Remarkably, our captain was the highest run-scorer from both teams in this low-scoring match.

Shubman's captaincy was commendable. He rotated the bowlers well and performed his role as captain admirably. It was in the death overs and Madande's runs that ultimately cost us the match. Nevertheless, this was Shubman's first match as captain, and there are four more matches to go.

Our captain displayed immense patience and composure. With a supportive partnership from the other end, he could have steered the team to a better score and potentially a victory. Shubman is undeniably the future of Indian cricket, and I have full faith in his abilities. Today, he made no mistakes, both as a captain and a batsman. However, cricket is a team sport, and success requires more than just a couple of players performing well. It is worth highlighting that Shubman achieved the highest score among both teams, demonstrating his calibre and leadership.
