____________
Long ago...

A shuddered breath. It was the only sound that could be heard.

    *BANG!*

A door shook. Someone was seemingly hitting it with every fiber of their being.

The door was covered in a magical aura. The person behind it wasn't a human, it was a monster. Toriel — the caretaker of the RUINS. She was sitting behind the door, scared.

Her right hand was raised; the paw covered in magic. It shook as she was struggling to hold back whoever was trying to force their way in.

"OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR!" Toriel could feel a strong impact behind her.

Her ears began to rung. Closing her eyes, She took another breath in, she had to stay strong for someone important, someone who had only fallen down a while back.

Opening her eyes — in front of her, she could see a small figure, scared and afraid; peeking from the entryway into the room. She glanced at them with a pained expression.

     *BANG!*

Toriel's body jerked forward slightly, the sound taking her by surprise. This time, it made her magic stutter for just a moment.

But through it all, she held on.

With a breath, she glanced up. The short figure looked more terrified than before, but more then anything else, they looked as though they wanted to help her.

Toriel shook her head at them, her pained expression dropped as she gave the figure a small, tender smile.

    *BANG!*

The small figure flinched. Seeing this, Toriel began to mouth words toward them. Her expression turning more tender and caring.

She kept repeating her words as the impact from the door had now turned rampant.

    "It's okay... it's okay..."

There was more shouting beyond the door, but by then, it had turned into nothing more than a ringing in her ears as tears began to fall down her cheek.

Closing her eyes, she didn't want them to see her in this state — she needed them to go away from all of this. It was all too much.

"Please, my child... I'll be fine. Go, I'll deal with this." She said.

The child looked conflicted, but Toriel persisted.

"Go... please." The tears from before had become more prominent.

With sad frown, they gave a small nod as they began to sink back into the entryway. The door closing along with it. And soon, they were out of sight.

Once it had closed, Toriel glanced downward. The tears had fallen and slightly damped her purple robe. She began to cry.

And soon, it was all she did.

Before long, she could hear a crack, of what she didn't know. Soon, more and more cracks appeared around her, and then behind her.

     And eventually...

     She could hear herself shatter.

"...!" Toriel immediately sat straight from her soft seat.
