"Y/N" a voice boomed.

Shit.

I walked up to the podium on shaky legs.

"And now on to the boys." Ok there's one thing that can make this day even worse. Please let it not be him.

"Seamus Braun."

I let out the breath I was holding.

Until a hand rose up and a voice shouted.

"I volunteer."

No. No. No. NO.

It was bad enough that I was now condemned to death, I don't want him following me. Tears pricked my eyes as they lay upon my love.

"And your name is?"

"Finnick Odair."

.....🔱.....

"Finnick."

"Y/N"

"Why would you do that?"

"You're not dying alone."

"Finnick..."

He reached over and kissed my forehead.

This car trip would've felt like my own personal hell, our mentors were constantly asking us questions, as well as our Capitol escort, Philippe, throwing in comments in his weird accent now and again.

But my salvation was there. My beautiful, darling Finnick. The boy who insisted on holding my hand throughout the entire tour of the orphanage, and then hid with me in the closet from the 'monsters' the older kids warned me about.

With his sandy blond curls and beautiful blue-green eyes, he looked like a god. Those greens eyes were on me right now.

"I'll keep you safe."

"I know." I said and snuggled into his side.

One of our mentors, Mags, looked over her shoulder at us and smiled, our other mentor, Murph, asked, "You dating her boy?"

Finnick glared at the man, "We're engaged actually." he said gesturing to his bracelet and my necklace, made of stones the colour of each of our eyes. It took us almost a year of combing beaches to find the right stones, and even then Finnick had to work overtime at the fishery in order to pay for it.

I hate that fishery, it's so dangerous, going out in rough seas, rain or shine to spear and catch fish. I always get so worried when he works there, I shouldn't because he was a man of the sea and a natural with a trident. But there's a reason there were so many orphans in District 4.

Mags gently tapped Murph on the shoulder, and then whispered something in his ear that made him grin.

"Well 'aint that lucky." he said to Finnick and then turned back to Mags, deep in conversation.

I sighed and nuzzled my face further into Finnick's neck.

.....🔱.....

We didn't really have a lot of people, other than one another, who cared about us. I wasn't surprised when only the orphanage mistress and a couple of other children from the orphanage came and saw me.

Yeah, they split Finnick and I up for around an hour for that shit. Which was normal for the Reaping process, but felt like torture to me. Who knows how much time we'd have left together.
