I couldn't take the risk of being late. So, I departed from my house earlier which caused me a boring waiting for twenty minutes on an isolated table in yesterday's cafeteria. I was mindlessly scrolling through Instagram when a light knock on my table made me look up to see a very ecstatic Raya.
"I'm glad that I'm not the first to arrive." Raya pulled the chair to sit down.
"Well, I didn't have a very joyous time to wait for you or the other monkey." I pushed the menu towards Raya.
Raya ordered an iced americano and I went on gulping my second cup of latte. We talked about what our approach towards Yaseen will be and how I'll not get angry even if he doesn't show up today. After another ten minutes a person entered through the cafe's door disturbing the bell system of the door. Raya looked at him and asked
"Is that Yaseen? Over the counter rubbing his belly?" Raya gestured with her thumb and side eyed me.
"Seriously? Yaseen is a sufficiently handsome and tall man in his late twenties. That man balding man is at least forty-five years old. My parents aren't that bad Raya." I looked at the man and then Raya. It's unbelievable that Raya thinks that man even stands a chance.
"Oops. I was just messing with you." Raya grinned at me.
"I think he won't come, I'll go to his house tomorrow and tell his family that I'm a drug addict." I chuckled as I imagined their reactions to this phrase.
"Bet? I'll shave my eyebrows if you do so." Raya clasped her hands together in excitement.
"Bet, you better keep your words noted" I smirked in amusement.
While the two of us were busy talking about nonsensical things, a man entered the cafe avoiding our gazes. Dressed in a perfectly fit tailored striped shirt and formal pants, he stood in front of our table with a single yellow rose in his hand.
"May I sit here?" A vaguely familiar voice made me jolt around to see the person. Yaseen looked relatively less troubled today which made me a bit more angry. I nodded at him silently and gestured at him to sit down.
"Is it him? His looks are more decent than his behaviour I guess. What a waste of potential." Raya spoke as she scanned Yaseen up and down.
" Who are you to measure my potential ? I don't even know your name and you think your opinion matters?" Yaseen knitted his eyebrows in offence to the insult thrown at him.
"Stop it, you two. Let me introduce you to each other. Yaseen, this is Raya Chakraborty, my best friend since college days. Raya, this is Syed Yaseen, my... Well.... My self entitled loverboy." I blurted out as I placed both of my hands in between their agitated figures.
"Ayat, I think your best friend needs to get her eyes checked. By the way, this is for you." Yaseen glared at Raya while handing out the yellow rose towards me.
"Unfortunately, today's topic is not Raya's well-being. I need an explanation from you Yaseen which is why I asked for you to pay a visit. Tell me why did you deviate from our original plan?" I put aside the rose to meet Yaseen's gaze. It took me a great effort to make my voice as calm as possible.
"I didn't mean to make you mad but I actually like you a lot Ayat. If I'm supposed to marry someone then I'd rather marry you." Yaseen sounded very convincing. Even a lie detector would hesitate to give him a red signal.
"Go tell that to a wall and the wall will slap you back. Aren't you a teacher? Have some moral values bro. Don't lie like this." Raya cracked her knuckles.
