Bella had found the book. Margaret knew it was inevitable and still she hated herself when she saw her sister exiting the bookstore. Her hands tried to brush away the tiredness, the guilt and hate she felt, but Jasper could feel it nonetheless, luckily, her phone rang, and when she read the caller's name all her feelings washed away for a brief second.
"Jessica?" Her face changed. "Oh shit! Jessica I am so sorry. Bella has just left the bookstore we're on our way right now." Jasper could practically feel the headache forming around Maggie's forehead, which he tried to ease as he laid a hand on her shoulder. Although the physical pain was fading, thanks to Jasper, Margaret's mind was working at such a speed that it could've triggered a headache all the same. She pushed her hair back with her hands, resting her head on the car seat with an audible huff.
Jasper could quite literally feel all her thoughts bombarding him like a thousand toothpicks that settles on his skin. Tiny, fast and sharp. He might not have been able to ease her mind, but he could try to get her to think of something else."That must've been the first time I ever heard you curse." Their eyes met and Maggie breathed a laugh that made the whole world stop for a second.
"That's not true, I curse." She said her voice confident, eyes shining.
"Sure you do." Her laughter filled his ears again, it made him dizzy, he thought then, he wouldn't mind getting drunk from her laugh.
"It's just... I don't know anymore." Their hands reached each others like magnets. Margaret felt the tension on her shoulders melt like soft butter under his touch. "We should go, try to get there before my sister gets into more drama."
The ride wasn't long, there was silence the whole time, but Margaret's mind wasn't quiet, too much was going on inside.
When they got there Angela and Jessica were already outside. Maggie got out of the car, Jasper followed pulled towards her every day that went by it was as if the bond got shorter, yet thicker. It didn't allow they to stray away, it pulled them closer and closer."Maggs! We're sorry, we tried to wait-" Angela started when they saw eachother.
"But we were starving!" Jessica finished. They all hugged quickly in greeting and then they noticed Jasper behind her.
"No it's fine, I'll make it up to you girls. Hey you haven't seen Bella have you?" They shook their heads in unison.
"No, we thought she'd be with you guys." Jessica said, noting Jasper standing next to her. They didn't notice his hand squeezing her arm, letting her know that he heard or felt something.
"We got into a fight." She confessed. It wasn't too long after she had spoken that Edward appeared out of thin air.
"What are you doing here?" Jaspers voice was low, deep and feral, it sounded more like an animal than human.
"Waiting." Was his simple yet puzzling answer. Right on cue, Bella appeared from the darkness, head high, hands in her pockets and her messenger bag hanging from her shoulder.
"We're gonna go." Angela squeaked, after feeling the unsettling tension that hung around us. She practically dragged Jessica down the stairs.
"So are we." Margaret said plainly, her eyes never leaving Edward's, defying. Whatever he was planing, what ever he thought, it wasn't his fault. He had fallen into Bella's trap. Jasper's gaze was fixed on his brother too, he held his look as his arm snaked its way round her waist. They walked over to the car. "Come on Bells." Her sister remained standing, her eyes had slimmed down like a serpent's, she was toying with them.
"No. I'm quite hungry." Then her eyes fluttered towards Edward, who had been still this whole time, no doubt fighting that hunger that came from his blood-singer. "We should go inside, have dinner together. Don't you think, sis?" It was practically hissing, the way she spoke, her manipulative plan threading each word like a rope which she would use to strangle us all. Margaret looked over at Jasper, he was stiff as the marble his face seemed chiseled out of, but his eyes remained on his brother. Seeing him so tense did little to soothe Maggie's nerves, but when Bella set her mind on something there was little anyone could do to stop her, they had figured out that much.
