Leona
"I am sorry Leo, I feel like I can't even look at you without this weight in my heart." Andrea Wilson's elder sister rushed here as soon as she heard, despite it being late in the night.
His parents also visited me at the hospital and they refused to meet him, but my parents might have had a conversation with them because they were about to visit him soon.
This confusion and heartbreak Wilson had put all of us through was like poison, spreading everywhere.
"It's not your or anybody else's fault." I tapped her hand assuringly.
"You are divorcing him right?" She asked fiercely and I nodded after a long pause.
Divorce.
A word that once felt like a curse, was my only conclusion now. A marriage that breathed its last on that night and died was only good to be six feet under.
"Did you contact any lawyers?" She asks.
"I was thinking about hiring Kalynn Morales, she is mom's best friend," I said.
"I was thinking," she halts between her words. "What if I handled your case?" She suggested with a heavy exhale, shocking me with her announcement.
"What, No! I opposed it loudly.
"Andrea that would look like I am taking some kind of revenge," I finished apprehensively. How ironic isn't it? Just two weeks ago I was happy that my fertility treatments were complete and had a hope we could add another baby while I sort this thing out with Wilson. Now I was sitting in my childhood home, and discussing my divorce with my sister-in-law.
"Leo, who cares." She scoffs. "Plus, I understand your situation better than anyone else." She reasons her eyes filling with tears. She had truly been the sister I never had. Andrea went through a rough patch with her ex-husband too. So she knew how brutal it was to end up like this.
"Andy, I-" I faltered.
"It breaks my heart too Leo, he is my brother. But I hate what he did to you, and if I could do this for you, this guilt would feel less heavy on my shoulders." She justified.
"As I said, it is not your fault. But I hope you know you can reconsider it." I hesitated.
"I am sure I don't need to reconsider." She replies.Andrea left soon and promised to draw up the divorce papers soon.
Two days later Wilson was served and he didn't take it well, he came to my parents' place and made a scene but fortunately, Wilona and I went to the Mall with Katrina to distract her by the time I got back he had left. But his ninety phone calls, six voice mails and thirty texts did reach me.
In some of them, he begged, apologised and asked for a chance but the other were so unlike him. Sounding so dominating and obsessed, saying I would never be able to leave him, that he would never let me go. At one point his declarations scared me and I turned my phone off while sobbing.
The next morning I felt like an absolute shit for agreeing to this, but when Andrea texted me informing me of Wilson's parents supported it too. In the corner of my heart that fear, that worry that I was being impulsive to act this quickly died down.
There was a lot on my mind, and my heart felt empty. My job was another thing I could not afford to take for granted so I contacted my office and my Boss's assistant who is also in charge agreed to get a temporary replacement after I told him I had some family emergency and I would start from Monday and explain things in person.
I have a bachelor's degree in my pocket. Since I got pregnant with Wilona we decided it wasn't necessary to spend money on more degrees when I wanted to be a housewife anyway.
