The first rays of dawn filtered through the stained glass windows of Arcanum Academy, casting colorful patterns across the stone floor. Alex awoke to the sound of a gentle chime echoing through the halls. He stretched, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension for his first full day of classes. The vision of the Phantom Stag lingered in his mind, a reminder of the strange and significant destiny that awaited him.

After a quick breakfast in the Dining Hall, Alex joined Talia and Orion in the courtyard. The students were gathering in clusters, chatting animatedly about the day's schedule. Alex's first class was Potions and Alchemy, taught by Professor Gideon Voss, a tall man with a wild mane of gray hair and a perpetually harried expression.

"Potions are the backbone of practical magic," Professor Voss declared, his voice booming through the cavernous classroom. "With the right ingredients and precise methods, you can brew elixirs to heal, to enhance, and even to transform."

The room was filled with rows of workbenches, each equipped with an array of vials, beakers, and mysterious ingredients. Alex found a seat next to Talia, who seemed to have a natural knack for potion-making. Orion sat across from them, his expression one of intense concentration.

"Today, we will start with a basic healing potion," Professor Voss announced. "The recipe is on the board. Follow it exactly, and do not deviate. Potions are an exact science, and a single mistake can lead to disastrous results."

As Alex carefully measured out the ingredients – dried nettle leaves, powdered unicorn horn, and essence of moonflower – he couldn't help but marvel at the complexity and precision required. He followed the instructions meticulously, adding each component in the correct order and stirring with a steady hand.

The room filled with the fragrant aroma of herbs and magical essences. Alex's potion began to bubble and shimmer with a soft, golden glow. He glanced over at Talia, whose potion was a brilliant emerald green, and at Orion, whose potion was a deep, rich purple.

"Excellent work, Mr. Evernight," Professor Voss said, peering into Alex's cauldron. "A fine first attempt. Remember, the key to successful potion-making is patience and precision."

Alex felt a surge of pride at the professor's praise. The rest of the class passed in a blur of activity, with students experimenting with different potions and sharing their results. By the end of the lesson, Alex had a newfound appreciation for the art of alchemy and the endless possibilities it offered.

Next was Elemental Magic, taught by Professor Thalia Stormrider, a tall, regal woman with flowing blonde hair and eyes like lightning. The class was held in an open-air amphitheater, surrounded by ancient stone pillars and lush greenery.

"Elemental Magic is the manipulation of the natural forces around us," Professor Stormrider explained. "It requires a deep connection with the elements and the ability to channel their energy through your own will."

She raised her hands, and a gust of wind swirled around her, lifting leaves and petals into the air. "Today, we will start with the basics of Air Magic. Feel the breeze, let it guide you, and then command it to do your bidding."

Alex closed his eyes, feeling the cool breeze against his skin. He focused on the sensation, imagining the air as an extension of his own body. Slowly, he raised his hands and willed the wind to lift a small feather from the ground.

To his amazement, the feather rose into the air, dancing on the currents of wind he had created. Alex grinned, exhilarated by the power he felt coursing through him.

Talia and Orion also succeeded in their attempts, though with varying degrees of control. Talia managed to create a gentle whirlwind that sent leaves spiraling, while Orion's wind spell was so powerful it knocked over a nearby vase.
