After being released from my sick bed, a cane was commissioned to ‘help’ me walk. I put emphasis on the help, for people have been bugging me all week. Servants and nobles alike.
“Do you need any assistance, my prince?”
“Are you feeling well, my prince?”
“I pray for your haste recovery, my prince?”
“Do you need anything, my prince?”
Then came the not so quiet whispers. Rumors of my intellect had been swiftly broadcast among the servants. They now knew not to speak about certain things around me. Not that it ever stopped them from doing it privately.
“I heard the prince is now lame,”
“Oh really, how unfortunate,”
“Should we start calling him the lame prince from now on?”
I had had enough of it. With the aide of my cane, I watched the knights of my fathers court repeatedly best each other. Some were amateurs, while others could be said to be a quarter of Jaime’s skill. I said quarter as he was currently the best knight in the Seven Kingdoms, long surpassing Ser Barristan.
I was momentarily stunned when my uncle Jaime snuck a hand on my shoulder. Jumping slightly in fright, I could see the edges of his lips curl upwards, forming a smirk.
“As of late, you have had an uncanny interest in swordplay nephew. Is it something that has caught your interest?”
Quite inquisitive aren’t you uncle Jaime.
‘I wonder, was it an interest why you found yourself in my mothers skirts at a young age. Was it something that had caught your interest,’ Dismissing such thoughts I paused to think.
“I think a dagger or hammer would suit me better, don’t you, uncle?” I watched him flinch slightly at the thought of me picking up a hammer.
He recovered quickly, though, with a smirk, “Aren’t you a little skinny for such a brutal weapon nephew. I admit a dagger would suit you, not the most honorable weapon like a sword though,”
Feeling a little mischievous today I sought to tease him further, “Since I’m so skinny, uncle I ought to try my hand at the Spear then,”
“Lest you be secretly a Dornishman Nephew, your mother would never allow it,” He was right. She would never allow it, that's why I'd ask Robert. After I was rid of my cane and well enough to train that is.
My reasoning for donning the war hammer was to get Robert's hammer as a gift. It'd be like when King Aegon IV gave Daemon Waters Blackfyre. Also it was to curry favor with dear old dad. He had visited me when he thought I was sleeping. The man did have a heart, deep, deep down inside.
To some extent, he did care for Joffrey and I.
That and also to build my figure, I didn't want to look like a wimpy kid, like Joffrey was in the series. If this was even the series and not the book. To the Gods I hope it's the series.
