Daniel stepped into the bar. It was the first time he'd been in the town. Hell, it was his first time in the state. The town was nice, albeit small with only the essentials needed for a long trip. A general store, a saloon, a hotel, and stables. Outside there were a couple equally small houses which belonged to the owners of the buildings and the few who worked for them. He had enough money to buy drinks and a room for the night, though he suspected he'd stay a couple days to really make sure the law hadn't caught up to him.
The first thing he noticed when he entered was the tallest man he'd ever seen working the bar. Daniel himself wasn't the tallest, but this guy was a whole two feet taller than him while most others had a mere few inches. The man was pale with long black hair which seemed to fade into white. How he did that, Daniel would never know. His skin seemed to gleam like diamonds in the sun, and his nails were sharp like talons. Something about him seemed familiar, but he was sure he'd never seen the man before. If he did he'd remember. He'd remember the man's demeanor being a sharp contrast to his frightening looks. He was quiet and gentle as he poured the drunk travelers their whiskey and slid beer to the less outgoing of them.
He leaned onto the bar and slid over a dollar asking, "One whiskey please, sir," and letting him keep the extra twenty-five cents as a measly tip. He looked around as the man silently poured his shot. The walls were decorated with deer skulls and paintings of nature. There were women standing around men, laughing at jokes that were rather inappropriate. It disgusted him. He drank the shot in one swift move and winced at the burn. It was the perfect thing to distract him from his recent scores. A few months back he'd lost someone close to him, his only companion in his constant running. And then he knew what it truly meant to be an outlaw. He'd been boasting about it since he was first on the run at fourteen, which he now knew was a mistake. His boasting was what got him into that mess and now he had to man up and face the consequences. Now he was alone once again and had gone back to petty theft and pick-pocketing to make due. The day before though, he'd done something truly crazy that supplied him with enough money to be comfortable in running.
He ordered another shot and the man was quick to refill his glass. With this service, he would definitely be staying for a while.
