Dancing in the Rain 

Jay wasn't very sure if he ever wanted to keep contact with his high school friends. No, there weren't any bad memories, but he was just not interested, and even if it was, he never really cared for it enough to deem it important until it came back to him, 8 years later, as he kept looking at the invitation in his hand and just kept on thinking back to something or someone , who danced in front of his eyes, as soon as high school was mentioned .

 8 years ago.

Jay was a new admission in his class and didn't really know anyone even after a week at school. Sure he was a hot topic, given to his good looks and a charming personality and of-course, the tag of being the son of the man of riches. But he hadn't really made any friends, so it wasn't really a surprise he found himself in the corner most seat of the class.

It was never a bother for him though, he was good, being the only child had prepared him for such circumstances way too well. And even today he wasn't very excited when he heard the class would have another new comer for the session. 

So he was honestly surprised at himself when the hushed silence of the class bothered him enough to lift his head and take a peek at the new comer who had rendered everyone speechless and to say he wasn't even mad at everyone for being starstruck, would be an understatement because the boy was ethereal. His eyes were so so shiny as he introduced himself, voice soft and cheeks so squishy, like a softly roasted marshmallow. 

Oh he hadn't even begun and Jay was simping. But then he smiled, teeth all on display and the class roared in coos , breaking Jay out of his staring trance, because apparently the whole class found the newcomer adorable. 

Okay for the first time, Jay was displeased, not for long though, because luck seemed to be in his favor today as the said boy, named Jungwon, was paired to be seated with Jay and Jay couldn't have been any happier, practically beaming with anticipation. Jungwon smiled upon him and Jay practically melted , the urge to squish the boy beside him as soon as he was seated took over him, and he couldn't help himself from blurting out a "You're cute" slapping a hand on his mouth right afterwards, embarrassed to the core, but Jungwon giggled, his cheeks turning rosy. 

Jay was sure he was burning red, but Jungwon didn't seem to mind. But who could he blame,  with a face as such, he's sure, even he'd compliment him a whole lot, starting today. As the day went by, during conversations Jay would gaze at Jungwon's face, and his eyes would always widen in admiration. But by the end of the day , he couldn't contain himself and blurted out, "You're really handsome-" Jungwon's cheeks flushed slightly, but he smiled confidently, replying, "Thank you, I get that a lot." 

Jay's eyes sparkled with teasing amusement, and he joked, "Oh, I bet you do! You look like a K-pop idol or something!" Jungwon chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and playfully shot back, "Hey, watch it! I'm just a humble student." Just then, they both simultaneously exclaimed, "You look like a cat!" and burst out laughing, their faces alight with mirth. 

Jay's grin was infectious, and Jungwon couldn't help but join in, their shared laughter filling the air as they discovered a new, genuine friendship amidst the playful banter. To say that they had found a new but genuine friend amongst each other wouldn't be wrong.

Jay still wasn't sure why he had decided to come to the alumni reunion. It wasn't like he had any strong ties to his high school days. In fact, he had actively avoided keeping in touch with most of his classmates. Not out of disdain or bad memories, but simply because he never felt the need to hold on to that part of his life. His high school years were a closed chapter, one that he had left behind without much regret.But here he was, eight years later, standing at the entrance of the grand ballroom where the reunion was being held.
