TW: ABUSE, S*EXUAL SLUR

Flashback (?)

Abuse was common in Aether's family, well it would be better to say abusing Aether was common in his family. Lumine, his twin sister was the only one who didn't hit him no matter how much their parents encouraged her to do so, saying he deserved and such. Unfortunately, Lumine couldn't always stand in the way; something their parents quickly took to their advantage and decidedly sent Lumine to a fancy private school outside the country.

"Lumine, w-what's happening!?" Aether asked, looking at the luggage their father was loading into Lumine's car.

"Mom and Dad enrolled me in Tevyat University. It's out of the country, so, so I'll be gone awhile," Lumine explained, squeezing her brother's hands reassuringly, but there was nothing that she could do to console his fear. With the gold child out of the house for good, Aether's fate as their parents' punching bag was as clear as the tears rolling down his pale cheeks.

"No... Lumine, you can't leave! They're... They're gonna... Can't I go with you, please!?" Aether begged, his suffering evident in his glossy amber eyes, pleading to be saved from his inevitable future.

"I-"

"Absolutely not. You'll stay here, where you can't distract your sister. I don't how you got out of your room but you're going back there." Their mother interrupted, grabbing Aether's wrist and dragging him away from his sister.

"Wait! Mom," Lumine yelled, "Let him go! Please, at least let him say goodbye!"

"Tch, be quick," Their mother growled, angrily throwing Aether at Lumine.

"I'm sorry, Aether, I am. But Mom and Dad promised to be nicer to you while I'm away."

"They did?" Aether's eyes glimmered with hope.

"Yes, and if they don't, I'll give them hell!" Lumine vowed.

"How long will you be gone?"

"Three months and then I have my first break. I'll take you out for the best day ever, promise!"

"Pinkie promise?" Aether asked, smiling slightly as Lumine intertwined her little finger with Aether's.

"I promise," Lumine returned his smile, detangling their pinkies.

Lumine kept to her word, visiting every chance she got but as time progressed, Lumine came by less and less. Eventually, Lumine stopped coming around altogether. A month after the visits stopped, Aether packed his clothes and precious belongings, though small in quantity, and ran away. Aether ran and ran and ran till his feet ached like hell and his eyes were threatening to close as exhaustion nearly overtook him. Looking around at the flashy billboards and Yaksha Security ads, Aether realized he had no idea where he was.

"Fuck... fuck!" *drip, drip.* The cloudy night sky had begun to pour as Aether curled up into a ball on the side of the road, thick tears mixing with the rain and soaking his clothes. Luckily, the plastic garbage bag he packed didn't get wet. That was probably the only thing going for him. Yellow lights lit up the road and the sound of cars zooming by filled his ears.

"Maybe I can hitch a ride to a motel or... I don't have much money though... maybe- urgh! What the hell was I thinking-"

"Aether, is that you?" A rough male voice asked him. Aether looked up to meet the gaze of a young man. Despite the bright advertisements plastered to different buildings, Aether couldn't pick out a single identifying detail. All he could see were two golden cat-like eyes waiting for a response.
