Chapter seven
The Split
Delilah's POV:
I woke up to Sam slowly packing a bag and grabbing Frodo. "Samira?" I said, making sure to whisper. She looked at me and froze. Her eyes darted to Eric and then me and then the rest of the group. "I need to go." She whispered. I nodded and said "let us come with you. Please. It's not an inconvenience." "Don't you want to escape on the boats? There's going to be a way for you to get out. Why would you want to waste your time with me?" "Why wouldn't I? Let's do what you need to do and then escape on the boat. Together." Sam half smiled and said "ok." "A few of us can come with you. The rest of us can stay. I'd say my sister, Blake and Haisley and Eric." Samira looked at Eric who was sleeping underneath me. Sam nodded and said "ok." I gently shook Eric and his eyes fluttered open. He slowly sat up and rubbed at his eyes. "We're going to go with Sam." Eric nodded and I stood up and went to go and get Dakota. I left Eric on the couch and walked into the bedroom. "Dakota." I whispered into her ear. She jumped and immediately looked at me. "We're leaving." She nodded and went to wake Alice and I shook my head. "What about Alice?" Her voice was a little loud. I grabbed the notepad from the table and wrote out the plan for her. We're going with Samira. She's got some stuff to do and then we're going to escape on the boat. We'll meet up with Uncle Harrison and the rest later. I think it's best if we go with Samira
Dakota read the note and then nodded. She took the notepad from me and wrote a quick response.
I just wanna be where you are
I smiled and motioned for her to follow me. She grabbed her stuff and we tip toed back into the living room. Blake was coming to, waking up Haisley. I wrote a note explaining where we were going. I was still a bit bitter at my uncle. I know he was trying to protect me but I need Eric. I think I need him more than I actually know. Sam awaited us to gather our things. I checked my jacket and it seemed to be drier than before. I stuffed it in my bag and shrugged off Eric's sport coat. He looked at me as I handed it to him. "For you." I mouthed. Eric smiled and took it from me, sliding on his body. Sam led the way as the six of us made our way out of the apartment building. Eric was the only male in the group but seemed to not care. Dakota stared up at the sky. It was a bit cloudy from the night before and everything was wet. Frodo walked along side us, seeming to love that he had a free moment to roam. Sam smiled at her cat and I was trying not to slip on the pavement. Eric frowned deeply as he tried not to get the slippers on his feet wet. He put his hands in his pockets and looked unbelievably sad. It broke my heart. I tapped his arm and he looked at me. I gestured for him to smile, pointing at my smile and curving my fingers upwards. Eric shook some water off his slipper and mustered a half smile. I frowned and Eric pouted again. I smiled again and poked his cheek. Eric swatted my hand away and I held up the note pad after writing.
We'll find you some new shoes. Can't have you frowning like this! Turn that frown upside down and cheer up! We're on an adventure!
Eric shook his head with a smile and I over dramatically pointed to the path in front of us. I held up the notepad again.
This way, to adventure!
Eric gestured to the street and continued to walk. I walked alongside him and he stopped. I furrowed my eyebrows, confused as to why he stopped. I looked down to see Frodo rubbing up against Eric's brown pants. Eric smiled really big, a boyish grin on his face. He picked up the black and white cat, kissing his head. Frodo rubbed his face on Eric's chin and chest. Eric held in a giggle and Samira watched in awe. Her lips parted and then turned into a smile. Dakota stood next to Samira, looking through her bag out of curiosity. Blake nudged me and mouthed "you're drooling." She gestured to her mouth as if I were. I rolled my eyes and mouthed "am not." Haisley smiled at the sight and Sam noticed a cart with books on it. Seemed to be a library cart. Eric put Frodo down and Sam looked through the books. I tapped Eric's arm. He looked at me and I mouthed "you're so cute." Eric furrowed his eyebrows and I mouthed it again, quicker this time. The doe eyed boy in front of me was still confused. I stood on my tip toes, cupping my hands around his ear. Eric leaned down a little and I whispered. "You're so cute." I pulled away from him and Eric's cheeks immediately turned pink. He smiled sheepishly and I looked away from him, doing the same. "So are you." I immediately looked at him. He pulled away from me and I shook my head at him. I reached for his hand and he grabbed mine. A loud thud entered the air. Sam's eyes widened as a book from the cart laid on the ground. Eric pulled me over to where Sam stood and I grabbed Dakota. We all started to make our way away from the area and tried to get somewhere to hide.
Another cliffhanger kinda buttt I've had lots of ideas for this book and I think I'll actually carry this book into a quiet place 2. To where Emmett and Regan show up on the island and unknowingly bring a death angel with them. Because technically that's where Eric and Frodo would be so I'm thinking of doing that.
