loud cries left riley's gaped mouth as she held her fathers hand. the infected were coming from each and every direction. he threw himself in front of the flesh hungry monster for her. a man who abandoned her when she was 11, the man who raised a hand to her mother countless of times, the man who disowned her for not choosing him over her mother in court during her parents custody battle. a man, she swore she hated, just sacrificed his own life for hers. "we gotta go!" lucas yelled at her.

"no." riley cried. "he- he's in pain. we have to help him. we can- can't just leave him here."

the only reason why her father was in town was for her, to take her back to texas, where his second family resided in after abandoning the first one he created. "we gotta go, riley. more are on the way!"

"no!" riley screamed, clutching onto her father. the man struggled to get air, the deep bite mark on his neck making it impossible to utter a single word. his hand grabbed hers, riley felt like a little girl again. she used to be such a daddy's girl. her chest ached at the familiar feeling.

the man looked at riley's brother than back at her before nudging her away, he was insisting for her to leave as the city continued to burn down in absolute chaos. "no, papa." she cried. "no mi voy."

"riley!" her older brother yelled before having enough and wrapping his arms around her waist. he yanked her away, ignoring the blood curling screams leaving his sisters throat.

riley's eyes shot open. she didn't know what kind of nightmares were worst, the ones in which she recalled real and tragic memories or the ones in which her mind made up the most devastating and disastrous scenarios. the room was absolutely quiet. if everyone wasn't actually asleep then at least they were pretending.

the clarks shared one side of the cabin while riley and her two siblings shared the other. riley slept on the bottom bunk, closes to the door, against the wall while her older brother slept on the bottom bunk in front of her, located against the window. valeria, her 12 year old sister, slept on the top of the bunk lucas was in.

riley stared at the bottom of her top bunk. her mind raced with all the different ways she could lose her sister, her brother... her mom. "mom." she whispered. she was in the helicopter with travis and alicia when it was attacked. she took one bullet to her lower abandonment and another to her shoulder. she lost so much blood out there. if it wasn't for nick, they would've shot her at the gate along with luciana.

riley carefully pulled herself out of bed. she didn't bother putting on a sweatshirt as she snuck out the cabin. her head turned from side to side, trying to remember where the infirmary was. panick began washing over her as her imagination ran ramped with what they might be doing to her mother. what if they're tourtering her? using her as a test subject? what if they just killed her without notifying them?

riley's chest tightened as she rushed off the porch, it felt like the world was spinning as she tried desperately to look for the infirmary. her chest began to tightened and soon it proved difficult to breathe. she stumbled around the ranch aimlessly as tears began to prick her eyes.

when she turned her head, hands grabbed her arms as her body collided with the figure. a small yelp left her lips as her head turned forward. "what're you doing?"

the man was suspicious of her. what could she have been doing wandering around the ranch in the dead of night? he felt a mix of worry yet confusion at her anxious state.

"i—-" she recognized him. it was the man from the military base. tyler? no. tony? no. what's his name? what's her name? where is she? her mind felt like a racing horse on the track field with no finish line. "i— my—-"
