troy woke up to the sight of riley sleeping peacefully beside him. she had her arm around his waist while his laid over her shoulders. troy didn't want to pull away. his chest felt full at the feeling of riley being so close. he recalled yesterdays events clearly. after their heart to heart, they stayed in his room. they didn't talk much, but it wasn't like they needed to. just being near each other was enough for them.

when riley still wasn't ready to face her family for dinner, troy made them a couple of pb&j's and snuck them upstairs. they started conversating as they ate and continued to afterwards. sleeping together wasn't planned. troy was in bed, his back prompt up by the headboard while riley sat crisscrossed beside him.

troy remembers telling riley she could lay down when she kept yawning in between her sentences. she did and as time went on she inched closer and closer to him until she was just a few centimeters away. riley had then fallen asleep during a rant of his and in her sleep, she had wrapped an arm around him.

troy didn't want to wake the girl and honestly liked how close she was. he only moved closer to riley and wrapped his own arm around her. it wasn't too long before he fell unconscious too.

as much as troy wanted to stay in bed with riley, he knew there'd be people raiding the pantry and arsenal because of what happened yesterday. it angered him to think about people wanting to leave at the first sign of trouble, disgusted him even. he especially thought mike was a coward for how he reacted in front of the ranch.

riley soon stirred awake too. her clutch on troy, tightening. "what time is it?" her voice sounded hoarse.

"6 a.m." troy replied.

this made riley groan and roll over in bed. troy immediately missed holding her in his arms. "i need to go. madison's probably worried sick, especially since i haven't really had a conversation with her since my mom..."

"right." troy nodded. "do you want me to come with you?"

riley got up. "um, no, i'll be fine." she then began changing back into her clothes. troy turned his head, not wanting to stare, not without her permission. "if madison knew i was hanging out with you, she'd probably loose her mind."

"she likes me." troy said.

"just cause she likes you, doesn't mean she'd like us together." riley said as she shimmed into her jeans.

"why wouldn't she?" troy questioned. "i'm good for you, i can protect you."

riley chuckled before sitting beside him. he was still in bed. "i don't need you to protect me."

"i don't just mean, physically." troy stated. riley stared into his eyes for a couple of seconds.

she really liked him but she wasn't sure how she was going to go about all of this. she pushed the worry to the back of her mind as she had other things like grief, to deal with at the moment.

riley only responded by placing a kiss on his cheek.

"where have you been?" madison asked when riley had returned to the cabin.

riley contemplated telling madison the truth. on one hand, it wasn't any of her business who she hung out with but on the other, she told madison she wouldn't interact with troy, whatsoever. knowing madison, she probably already knows. her best option would be to come clean... right?

"i was with uh, troy." riley said.

valeria walked out of the kitchen. "so you're hanging out with psychopaths now."

"so you're talking to me now?" riley retorted but there was no malice in her voice, she was genuinely surprised.

valeria rolled her eyes. "actually no, i'm not."
