monei had just finished getting ready to attended a cookout with her friend khelani .
the south side of houston was know for these events , khelani and her brother grew up on that side so they were use to them
monei had went to a few when her and her cousin ray was still hanging out
looking down at her phone she seen that lani had just pulled up
making it to the car , monei seen that lani had brought along her friend j-lo monei wasn't mad she just wished she had a heads up
it took them about 15 mins to make it to their destination
" it smell just like some bbq ribs " she said as the 3 got out the car they followed khelani to the spot where her brother khari and chance were sitting
everybody greeted one another where monei didn't see jojo
she poured her a cup of casamigos with a lil bit of cran-grape and found herself a chair
she wasn't too much familiar with any one here expect khelani who was talking , r'monei didn't find it a problem she was a big girl she just put her focus on to her surroundings
events like this were beautiful the community coming together
kids playing , folks cooking , eating folks dancing , playing cards you name it
she sipped on her drink as the conversations of her peers grew
she soon see jojo coming from the front , he was carrying makhi who was ready to get down and play
" MON " he said finally putting his eyes on monei she chuckled she loved how he adored her
" hey khi khi " she embraced his hug as jojo spoke to the others
" sup monei " he nodded her
" hi " she spoke
after a while khi finally made his way to play .
as time passed the sun was slowly going down , the group had shared laughs and giggles all evening monei had rarely engaged in the conversation as she kind of enjoyed her own presence
she just watched her surroundings
jojo had snuck off to the front to smoke being that he hardly had time to himself
thinking hard about it monei got up walking herself to the front where she seen khi leaning asking his car
she walked over to him standing beside him
" hey " she spoke softly
" sup" he said hitting his blunt once more as his attention was elsewhere
" how you feeling ?" she awkwardly asked
" eh , normal ?" he nonchalantly said as he exhaled smoke
the 2 had grew closer over the past 2 weeks but jojo hadn't been acting himself since like 2 days ago
" youn seem into it " she said fidgeting with her fingers as she seen he was grilling her

" look sorry for acting like a ass , my babymoms came into town , saying she want khi saying she gone go to the laws " he vented
" what ?"she scoffed " why didn't you tell me ? " she asked
" shit i thought i handled it , but that shit keep replaying in my head jada ain't leaving without a fight " he said
" well jojo yk i got your back , you coulda came to me sooner " she said.
he nodded, as the sound as laughter came towards them
" khi ain't gaf he took ts like a g " khelani said walking next to chance as she held khi's hand who was covered in rocks and dirt

" he ain't bad he just ain't gone take no bullshit " khari as the group laughed , jo just smiled not in the mood to joke
" ya'll ready to spilt ?" he asked grabbing jo putting him the car getting in as well
he crunk his car up hinting monei to get up
she took the note and headed to the backseat of khelani's care
she didn't trip on jojo's actions she knew he was going through something
" you good ?" khelani asked monei finally getting in the car
