【 Chapter 02 : Not A Single Clue 】

A VAST MAJORITY of the school population had after-school clubs and night classes to attend to. Most of those that are part of my club are top students or have a general interest in the subject. This is a science school after all, I doubt someone would enrol in a school that does not cater to what they want and their preferences.
I just happened to be enrolled here without my consent, but who's to say I'm truly upset with my parents? They were both just doing what they thought would be the best for me, regardless if I'd somewhat spite them for it.
And since this is a private science school, it did not surprise me to see Yoojin amongst the sea of familiar faces inside our designated club room the moment I stepped in. However, I did notice that one particular member did not attend. How could I not when he took up quite a large space and stood out from the rest just from his interests alone.
The only unoccupied seat left was at the teacher's table, and since no one else usually had the nerve to sit there, I walked up without hesitation. Their curious gazes were still upon me even when I set my bag down and I couldn't help but clear my throat.
"How is everyone's research and products for the science fair?" My question was met at first with silence, some students at the front avoided my gaze. How funny that people choose to mute themselves at times when their response is needed because of guilt and, sometimes, fear. So this is how our teachers must feel whenever no one speaks up about homework and such.
"We, uh—" a boy with dyed hair in a furious shade of red accompanied by multiple piercings on his ears paused to look at the students beside him. Beside him was a girl with a messy wolf cut that looked alarmed that he spoke up and another girl visibly face-palmed.
I inwardly chuckled and waited for him to continue. Clearly the others looked quite relieved that another group was taking the brunt of my attention. Three of the groups began brainstorming, all huddled together and speaking in hushed voices—though there was one group that physically had to immobilize someone from jumping another group member. There were some that chose to converse through text messages, possibly a group chat, while a very few sat idly. Either their group mates were not with them or they were a one-man team.
Yoojin had his laptop open, indubitably in deep thought whilst typing and looking through his phone every now and then simultaneously. He must be doing the research to possibly show me something after I've talked to most of the groups.
"So, uhm, mister club president sir." My attention was instantly pulled back to the group in front of me, the one who spoke got a harsh clap on his back that made him yelp. I shook my head at their silliness but urged them to go on.
"Our experiment is focused on making environmentally friendly markers," said the same boy as earlier. I nodded as I pulled out my iPad and pen from my school bag.
Once I was in my notes app and had written in their supposed research, I looked at them once more. "What would be the ingredients for your markers then? I assume it'll be from plants since you said it's going to be environmentally friendly. Will it be compostable?"
The boy laughed awkwardly, looking back and forth to his members for help. Alas, they must have given up since the girl with the wolf cut sighed and spoke for him. "We're still researching what fruits to use and our method. Junhee said we could go for certain leaves and branch out our research from there but we still haven't come up with something that makes sense, if you get what I mean."
