【 Chapter 06 : Stygian 】

A FAMILY REUNION isn't an uncommon event in our family, but we seldom come to the party since my parents were always busy with their work and they claim that my education is much more important than some inconsequential tradition. However, because of the date of this year's family reunion, we're able to go. It was a perfect sunny Saturday and we could all come.
The reunion itself was held in Chungcheong, with my uncle being the host for this year. It was supposed to be my father, as he is the eldest son of my paternal grandparents, but he immediately threw that responsibility to uncle Jichang instead, making up an excuse that since he was to marry within the year—that's what he told me—then it's his time to shine.
I hardly knew what went down between the two since their conversation was mostly held through a phone call outside of our house. Father has always had the habit of taking phone calls outside while my mother answers them in her bedroom. I do not know why but I never asked, it is their work and none of my business. Hopefully.
The place where we're all meant to stay in was a large semi-traditional series of houses. Instead of staying with my parents, I'll be temporarily rooming with two of my youngest uncles that were around my age. It still baffles me how uncle Jihan and uncle Jibeom were near my age but decided not to question it. There are far more devastating things to question about. Like why is my mother the only one cooking.
As always the elders were staying in some kind of entertainment room with a television in it and several floor cushions. There was also a partially large dark oak table, tiny red cards were scattered all over it. They were all probably playing Go-Stop earlier. I had just arrived from buying more icepacks and vegetables—which, by the way, were very hard to find. I had to ask uncle Jichang to guide me to the nearest market since the possibility of me getting lost was very high.
As I sat down beside uncle Jibeom that greeted me with a smile while offering pieces of oranges, I caught sight of my father outside on his phone, his angered voice was almost reaching inside the room but I closed the door with a soft thud.
My grandparents were watching the news, and on the large screen showed two men, one dressed in white with a veil and holding a bouquet while the other was clad in a black suit. A one of a kind same-sex marriage between two young men. The reason it was one of a kind was because of how rich the two were. One being the owner of the company that created my favourite games while the other a famous streamer.
Inwardly, I smiled, thinking how happy they must be. Not only were their careers complementing each other but they looked to complement each other too. The one with the veil held a bright gaze towards the other, looking like he was laughing even if it was a still photo. The other had a softer and calmer look, adoration filled his eyes as he gazed at his lover. My heart couldn't help but beat faster as I imagined their life as a newly wed couple.
I've never truly seen myself getting married before, even with all the pushy suggestions my father gave me, but after seeing the news I think I could see myself wearing white instead of black. But who would the one wearing black be?
I could see myself walking down the aisle, a bouquet in hand that held my favourite flower, and a familiar face greeting me at the end.
