Chapter 5: Secrets and Suspicions

Erich found himself looking forward to their next meeting more than he wanted to admit. When Arabella invited him over for dinner at her apartment, he accepted without hesitation. Her place was cozy and inviting, a stark contrast to his minimalist and sterile living space.

"Make yourself at home," Arabella said, bustling around the kitchen. "Dinner will be ready soon."

Erich took a seat on the couch, looking around. The walls were adorned with cheerful photos and colourful artwork, reflecting Arabella's vibrant personality. He felt a strange sense of comfort here, a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time.

As Arabella cooked, they chatted about their day. Erich found himself laughing and sharing more than he usually did. But as they sat down to eat, a news story flashed on the TV, catching his attention.

"Tech mogul Erich Blunt, acquitted of all charges last year, was seen attending a high-profile event in New York..." the reporter's voice trailed off as Arabella quickly changed the channel, an awkward silence settling over them.

Erich tensed, waiting for the inevitable questions. But Arabella simply smiled and handed him a plate.

"Lasagna," she said cheerfully. "Hope you like it."

Erich was taken aback by her nonchalance. "You don't have any questions?"

Arabella shook her head. "I figured you'd tell me when you're ready. Everyone has a past, Erich."

Her words took him by surprise, and he felt a wave of gratitude. "Thank you," he said quietly.

They continued their meal, the atmosphere lightening. Erich appreciated Arabella's respect for his boundaries and felt a deeper connection forming between them.
