After four years, we graduated. We had a bumpy road but the big day was finally here. I found myself with my blue cap and gown on. I was wearing a silky blue bow tie against a white shirt.

I showed up to the graduation stage for arrangements. Liam and I were as if we had already become famous. I had sent my parents a letter for them to come. We walked on stage and got my diploma as a 4.0 graduate. I saw my mother in the crowd. That was the most exciting moment I'd experienced. I moved over my tassel and threw my hat in the air. It looked like a swarm of blue birds flying above our heads. I ran to my mom and threw my arms around her instantly. I hadn't felt the loving hug from a mother in six years. My senses were overwhelmed. I took her to a local diner where we got a meal and talked. She explained to me why she never came to see me. She told me that my father would take her keys when she tried. She explained that he had been arrested for domestic violence and so she came to me. I learned that my step sister Emily was in college for a doctors degree. I loved hearing more about my family but I was excited to open up my diploma. I reached into the pocket of my pants and opened it.

"Shawn Day Lewis Musical Theatre Graduate from Juliard."

Just then my mother pointed out a very small note at the bottom.

"Shawn, I have had a great experience teaching you for the last four years. It is with great sorrow that I have to let you go to be a successful adult. I am very excited to tell you that in our production of West Side Story, I invited some scouts to a showing. They want you to be Link in the Broadway production of Hairspray the Musical! Keep me in touch on how the show goes.
