Chapter 3: Challenging Ways

Seungcheol POV

"Arghhhh why do they have to give the assignments during summer break." Jeonghan flopped his head on the study table groaning loudly.

"It's not only you seniors, okay? We have to do too!" Yewon complained scribbling some notes on her copy.

"This is ridiculous. The teachers will enjoy their vacation while we are doing some unimportant stuffs." There was subtle tearing of pages as Joshua threw some of them in the dustbin.

"Why are you wasting the pages?" I exclaimed whipping my head at Joshua.

"He made a mistake. Twice to be honest." it was Vernon who spoke breaking his own silence after an hour.

"Is it still necessary to tear them away? Can't you strike of the words." filled with confusion, Sofia inquired, swinging her legs from the bed.

Vernon and Sofia's family settled in Seoul a few years back and also being the closest neighbor next to Jeonghan's house. He adorned both of them like his siblings so of course we became friends easily.

"She is right. Not gonna lie you are wasting too much pages. Also Yewon same goes to you too!" Glaring at Joshua and again at the filled up dustbin.

Yewon and Sofia were both in their 1st year of middle school, Vernon in his third year and the rest of us in third year of high school. Jeongsik, Jeonghan's brother is in university.

There was one week left for the summer break. Jeonghan, Joshua and Yewon completing their way back pending work which should have been done in the beginning of the break itself. But what to say when the idea was suggested by Jeonghan, completing the work in the last moment.

My eyes darted through the door again and again.

The thing was that, all of us were hustled in Jeonghan's brother room. Second thing was the whole room was a mess. Lastly, the third worst thing was that he was supposed to come home today after his semester break.

"I think we should clean up." Vernon eyes narrowed down the mess while I tentatively grumbled. A drop of sweat roll down my spine.

"It's okay we are fine. Don't worry." Jeonghan meekly responded. He gulped a bit looking around the room sideways. That menace!

Before I can knock some sense in his head for this stupid idea, doing the work in his brother's big room. The door swung opened Jeongsik pulling a suitcase behind him unaware of the unexpected people in the room.

When his eyes landed on us his smile fell with grimness. The rest of us hold our breath, as if the oxygen level dropped.

"What's going on here? Jeonghan?" his voice was slight threatening narrowing his eyes on that one person who was responsible.

We all waited for him to drop his nonsensical excuses but to our uttered surprise and disbelief he said.

"Sorry it was my idea."

Jeonghan saying sorry? Did I ate something wrong at lunch?

Jeongsik eyes were about to pop out. "Holy shit. Where is Jeonghan who are you?"

Jeonghan frowned. "Don't behave as if I am always the one to create trouble."

Part of it was yes still. He apologized?! I should mark done on my calendar.

"Did I enter a wrong dimension where I am seeing my baby brother saying sorry to me?"

"Don't be a nuisance. Also don't behave like a sarcastic joker who just passed with highest IQ in university."

"Well you can't deny that. Hello everyone. Enjoying your break huh?"

Jeongsik totally ignored him afterwards placing his suitcase at the corner and talking a seat beside me. I flashed a smile at him as he returned the same hanging an arm over my shoulders.

He looked at the others. "Care to explain why everyone decided to crash in my room."

"It is spacious that's why." my annoying sister replied before Jeonghan can open his mouth. Jeonghan gave a sheepish grin at his brother. I stifled a laugh as Jeongsik shook his head in defeat.

These two, Jeonghan and Yewon grew up along with us but if someone else saw them together they will assumed they are twins. Same sharp tongue, brattiness but also kind at heart. No one can differentiate both of them coming from different families.

Jeonghan, Joshua and Yewon continued their work while the rest of us chatted along. I glanced at Jeonghan. His brow scrunched concentrating deeply at his work.

All these years of friendship something I didn't realize how good he looks. Despite being a pain in the ass his looks were flawless. I gulped turning to Vernon who was speaking.

What the hell I was thinking. Come on I am not lowering my own standard thinking about my best friend like that. He has good looks that's it nothing else. Why the hell I will even think like that. Yeah I definitely ate something wrong during lunch.

I heard Yewon going out of the room to drink some water. As soon as she went out Jeonghan turned to us. I already had a sixth sense he has something in his brain.

"Yewon birthday is coming in two weeks. So..." he dragged the word for a few seconds.

"Let's go to the zoo."

They way I snorted while Joshua was regretting his suggestion, Sofia and Vernon were struggling to hold their laugh and Jeongsik was done with him.

"What? It's a good idea for her birthday. Plus she loves animals. Specifically panda."

Joshua replied "I know why you want to go."

Jeonghan whipped his head at him a slight smirk evident on his face.

"Don't argue. I know you will lose the bet I made with you."

"Nahh I will win for sure. You just want to know how big is a hippopotamus butt."

Did my brain short circuit? The fuck did I heard?

Jeongsik toppled over the bed laughing his lungs out while Sofia and Vernon crackled loudly.

"Are you serious?!" I asked looking at Jeonghan's flustered face, too perplexed to say anything.

"I just want to know okay. Just curious. Hey stop laughing." I choked my laugh. My god his brain sure works different.

"Who even.." Jeongsik gasped. "Want's to see a butt. That's not normal but hippopotamus butt."

Jeonghan face was flushed red. He grumbled something inaudible going back to his assignment. "She will like the zoo for sure." he said.

I chuckled at his reaction. Whatever it is, he was surely different from us.

"Sure let's see what happens."

Our eyes met, him with a challenged look while mine with a amused one.

Yewon's birthday was surely going to be interesting.
