"Stop following me.”
"Oh, do you want me to walk beside you? Maybe hold hands with you?”

"Stop following me.” He demanded, footsteps light on the snow.
"Oh, do you want me to walk beside you? Maybe hold hands with you?”
Nightmare paused at the quip, head snapping back over his shoulder to glare at his subordinate. Killer had been pushing boundaries recently, and he was having none of it.
“No, Killer.” He turned, and took a step forward, “I want you to carry out your mission as I asked.”
“D’awwwwh, you don't wanna hang out with lil old me~?” He copied his step, leaning in as his smug grin was replaced with a mocking frown. “I thought we were closer than that, Night..”
Nightmare scoffed, closing his eye, his teeth grit as he fought the urge to hurt the skeleton in front of him.
“You don't gotta be so rude, y’know-” Killer raised his hands as a sign of surrender, “-we’re in this together~!” He sang, walking backwards for a few paces before turning and walking off normally.
Nightmare walked in the opposite direction, refusing to bother looking back at the sound of Killer breaking into a fit of giggles. A slight growl escaped him at the disgusting attitude, but Killer was far too valuable an asset for him to lose so soon.
Over the few months they'd known each other, Nightmare had never met such a daring individual. A large portion of the fools he recruited respected, or perhaps feared, him so much they'd not even dare talk out of line. Even when Nightmare was “out of range” of anyone's conversations, words usually ended up back to him regardless, so it had become an unspoken rule to keep quiet about anything and everything that was a bother unless it was something that you knew for sure he'd fix.
Killer was one of the few who broke that rule.
Nightmare grinned in aggravation, his tentacles flaring as he recalled Killer's first moment of rebellion.
Killer had been there for roughly a month, and had largely kept his mouth shut unless it was to chime in to one of Horror and Dust’s many arguments. They'd been sitting at the dinner table, eating the food Nightmare had made, before Killer coughed and let out a snort,
“This food tastes like ass, holy shit!”
His tentacles lowered slightly at the recollection. Had it been anyone else their limbs would have been scattered across the floor, but Killer was.. a special case.
Nightmare paused, looking up at the crystals lining the ceiling of Snowdin. There had been no fear, no regret, not even a look over to him to make sure his fate wasn't sealed. Killer had coughed again and pushed the plate away, only then looking at the faces around him.
“What?” He whined in annoyance. “What’d I do?”
Nightmare’s eye had twitched before he responded in his usual calm tone.
“I should kill you for that remark.”
Killer groaned and kicked the table with one leg, leaning back in his chair. “Eating here is like a death sentence anyway so it wouldn't change much.”
A smile came to Nightmare's face as his tentacles gently rested in the snow. It had been such a simple sentence in the grand scheme of things, yet to him it was something new and unexplored. To have Killer defy him so boldly and outwardly, yet for the next day to have him jump in front of an attack from their enemies to make sure he didn't get hurt..
He turned, half expecting the annoying skeleton to still be following him, yet all he saw was more houses and snow.
It was confusing. He'd only sent Killer down to the door of Ruins, and considering Killer's speed he should've been back by now—or at the very least close enough for Nightmare to sense his own personal aura of excessive boredom—yet he wasn't.
He looked back and forth at the two paths. One into the main town of Snowdin to finish their patrol, the other to find his rebellious freak of a subordinate. He knew well that Killer could handle himself in a fight, he'd proven that during his many genocide runs, but that didn't stop Nightmare from worrying about the damage he might be causing by himself.
He groaned, rolling his eye before beginning the slow trek back to the beginning of the snow covered area. He could've teleported over, but given how much Killer already loved to mock him over the smallest things he didn't fancy sitting through yet another charade of his.
Uneventful. The stroll was uneventful. He would glare at whoever he saw, getting mixed responses from people cowering to people going back to minding their business. Either way, he didn't particularly care about them—they wouldn't attack, and that was all that mattered.
Nightmare came to a stop, his arms crossed as he made eye contact with his subordinate. Killer was sitting atop a tree stump, the rest of it laying to the side as he lightly kicked his feet back and forth.
“Did you find anything?”
Killer shrugged, his smile laying passively on his face in such an odd way that Nightmare couldn't immediately tell what was different.
An irritated sigh. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means nope.” He responded plainly, mimicking the sigh.
Nightmare's eye twitched at his demeanor, but quickly softened as he tried not to give Killer exactly what he wanted—anger.
“Why didn't you come find me?”
Killer went still aside from his voluntary breathing, head tilted as he hummed for a moment. “You told me not to follow you.”
There was silence as Nightmare contemplated his next move. That tone in the younger skeleton’s voice was very known to him, one of annoyance and one of silliness.
“You know well what I meant,” he replied casually, flicking Killer on the nose with a tendril.
Killer gasped, pressing a hand to his chest. “Oh, but do I?! For your words are so boring they make me want to-” he fell backwards onto the floor, remaining silent for a few moments “-fall asleep.”
Nightmare only groaned and dragged him over with a tentacle. “Next time, I'm going to make sure there's no possible way you're able to follow me.”
Killer only giggled in response as Nightmare prepared to teleport back to the hideout. “We'll see about that!”
