Months passed as I slowly lost all contact with Wyatt. Attempting to re-establish a connection, I never heard back. Guess he didn't want to have contact with me now. Suppressing my feelings of sadness, I channelled the pain of my losses into working up the ranks of the army and eventually into the an elite special forces squad.
Black rubber boots trodded on the concrete floor, got to get to the squad's training session! Expertly weaving my way through the training compound, I came upon the designated location with a minute to spare. Sliding through the doorway, I made my way to the corner of the room where some of the squad had already begun to gather. Excluding Commander Rolik, there was twelve of us, ranging from experience veterans who had spent years completing top secret mission to new additions like me eager to learn and prove our worth to the team.
"Okay boys, gather around." Commander Rolik ordered. "No new mission yet, but that doesn't mean we can take a break. You never know when we could be called out into the field. We're going to go through battle simulations in the ring 6." Glancing at us new additions, "Time to prove yourselves." Cracking his knuckles, "Then it's free training time until dinner." Unlocking the sliding door to the combat training room, "Load up!"
Heading straight to the assault rifles, I grabbed my favourite M4 rifle and quickly snapped on a red dot sight. Filling out the extract pouches in my vest with extra ammo, I picked out and slid a glock 17 model battle simulation pistol into my belt before gliding over to my favourite section. Hand to hand combat. Strapping a two edged dagger to my waist, I dropped three throwing knives into my vest and clipped on a baton for good measure. No such thing as having too much of a good thing. Tossing on a bulletproof helmet, I was ready to go.
"Here take that junk off your head, Whitney." Commander Rolik disgustedly spoke. Handing me a new helmet, "Yours to keep. Ten times better protection that the stuff you had on the front lines, night vision, heat vision, enemy recognition, this thing has it all." as he fastening on his own, obliviously battle used, state of the art modified helmet. "It's already been hardwired into the squad's chat frequency."
Securing the headgear, instantly I heard Duce requesting Ethan to grab him a silencer from the sniper station.
"Front button the right side for normal vision, middle for heat vision, and last for night vision." Rolik explained.
Separately pressing each button, I tested out each of the options.
"Head to the strategic room once you chosen your things. I'll explain what we're doing in there." Commander Rolik informed me as he went off the round up the rest of the crew.
Figuring I had a couple minutes until everyone got to the strategic room, I quickly chose a couple of grenades before making a beeline to the determined meetup location. Just in time. Spotting an open seat by Ethan, I sat down as Commander Rolik took attendance.
Waiting to be accounted for, I double checked I had everything I would possibly need.
"Maverick." Commander Rolik glanced over the room to find me.
"Here." I answered as I slipped my hands into my pockets.
Rattling off a few more names, eventually everyone was accounted for.
"Okay, we're going to do a hostage situation in area 3. Duce you're the hostage. You can keep your weapons for now but you will have to hand them over to the defending team once the game starts. Brooks, Ethan, Reid, Matthew, Durk, and Christian. You're defending your captured prisoner, Duce. Everyone else is with me." Thinking about something, "Brooks you're leading. You guys have 15 minutes to set up. We'll enter once the 15 minutes are up." Pressing a button which opened the door to the battlegrounds, "Good luck, boys. You're gonna need it."
