"Vice-President has landed. Do you copy? Vice-President has landed."
Oof! Startled awake from my sleep, the rim of the steering wheel landed a hard blow to my midsection as I stood up. Pointing to the com, Commander Rolik kept on preparing his rifle for combat as if nothing was happening in the world. Holding the button down with my index finger, "Copy that." I radioed back as the car's engine roared to life once again. Pulling out of the parking lot, I flicked my blinker on for the left lane as cars cruised down the road. Halting at the intersection, I took a right and pulled off to the side of the paved road.
"We are in position." I announced into the unit encrypted comm.
"Okay. Vice-President is just shaking hands with other government's officials right now. No hostilities in sight. Should be at your position within five minutes." Ben elaborated.
"Got it. We'll hold tight."
Requesting the receiver, Commander Rolik spoke, "Matthew, are you in position to follow?"
"Yes, Fox and I are sitting right in the spot you guys were in. I retrieve the stuff from the dumpster. By the way, what are those things?"
"You don't need to know right now. Just know they are expensive and it was hard to get my hands on them. So don't loose them, they will make our lives way more easier when the Vice-President is in his peace talks with the other government."
"Got it. Over and out."
Silenced wafted over the cabinet as the communication channels went dead. Staring into my rear view mirror, intently I watched for the convoy of cars. Nothing yet, asides from the normal day to day traffic.
"Should see them now in the distance. Over." Ben said.
Shifting my shoulders backwards, I didn't see anything. Looking over for confirmation from Commander Rolik, he was still placing the last finishing touches on his rifle. Glancing back again, I waited for my eyes to pick up anything. There! Way back in the distance, I spotted the lead black vehicle. Guessing I had maybe twenty seconds before they hit the intersection, I peered through the front window to make sure I had a clear lane to enter onto the road. Nothing in sight, I looked back to see how distance the convoy had crossed in the time span of about 3 seconds. About a fifth of the distance. Adrenaline began to rise as time grew nearer. Ten seconds. Turning on the car, I prepared to merge.
"Open my window. Now!"
Following Commander Rolik's odd orders, the pain of glass fell to the door. Expertly swinging his rifle around, he pointed it up and out of the opening. Bang! A person fell from the top floor of the parkade located about a half a kilometre ahead of us. Hearing the echo of the gunshot, immediately, Commander Rolik reached for the receiver.
"Got him, Matthew?"
"Yep, fell down right onto trash. Nobody will be finding him for awhile, I placed two explosive with timers for two minutes with him"
"Now get going. The Vice-President's convoy gonna investigate this before travel any further and I don't want to be questioned."
Just as he said that, the Vice-President's entourage came to a stop.
Tired, Commander Rolik uncaring slammed the comm into its holder.
"Drive, will have to find them on the way there."
In too much disbelief to ask any question, I checked the road one more time. Turning my right blinker on, merged onto the bare street heading straight towards the parkcade. Passing the building, we clearly saw a centimetre round whole right between the eyes of the deceased individual who was crumbled onto the grass in an inhuman position. Tossing a grenade by the carcass, we barely made it past him before the ground threw up dirt.
