After dropping their things off in the village tavern, the familia left with Sylphian through the forest. The introductions were simple and sweet with the elf being fully transparent with necessary information. Both Evan and Eugeo were ready for action but the elf's demeanor was concerning. Whatever this monster was it defiantly worried him. They made it past the fog, which Sylphian explained was a magic barrier created by the sacred tree to alert and keep track of outsiders.. Making their way out of it, they continued onward.
"So Sylph, where are we headed?" Evan questioned, tailing close behind him.
"We're heading to a place on the outskirts of the forest. When the battle begins it may be imperative we lead the beast as far away as we can to keep risk to the village and forest to a minimum."
"You still haven't explained what kind of monster we're dealing with." Nike spoke.
"It's a dragon. A powerful one that's been in a deep slumber for centuries."
"Wait, seriously?" Eugeo questioned with clear surprise.
"I wouldn't lie about something like this. Again, sorry to involve you all, but this situation could get intense."
Evan smiled confidently at these words, "Don't apologize, it sounds like a perfect chance to push past our limits. We came here for a shot at recruitment, I didn't expect this but I'm all for it!"
"Nice to hear you're eager."
"Sylphian, what exactly IS this dragon? And how do you know it's about to wake up?" Nike questioned.
"This forest used to be home to a ferocious two headed dragon. It was originally slain 300 years ago but its child remained in a deep hibernation underground. Since I was a child I've been able to hear its sounds whenever I was in this part of the forest, and they're getting shallower and shallower, a telling sign that it will wake soon."
"I'm confused, what do you mean by "Sounds"?" Nike asked curiously.
The elf turned to her and brought a finger to his left ear, "My hearing is quite impeccable. Every living creature produces sounds and vibrations, and I'm able to interpret it all as varying information. A person's presence, race, their character, feelings, actions and intentions, all of it is evident in the sounds they make. And I can hear it all for about a half mile radius."
"That's amazing." Eugeo complimented.
"It really is." Evan added. "Wait, you can't hear thoughts can you?" The elf just turned to him with a sly smile. "Oh you sly elf!"
"I'm sure an ability like that can get rather maddening sometimes." Nike said empathically.
"Sometimes. Growing up I had to train my hearing to become more selective to keep from going crazy. On the bright-side you learn an awful lot about people."
"Now I'm curious, what do our sounds say about us?" Evan asked curiously.
Sylphian didn't turn around, "Evan, you're a confident, exceptionally head-strong and willful human. You're fiercely loyal and unapologetically true to yourself. You are friendly and kind, albeit a bit perverse and lustful."
Evan was in complete shock for a moment, the elf basically had him pegged and without knowing him for an hour. "What about me, Sylphian?" Eugeo asked. The elf looked at him, "You're an exceptionally kindhearted, considerate and caring, Eugeo. You are loyal, responsible and hardworking. You have the sounds of someone who's all around naturally friendly with a strong sense of justice and free of any deceptive traits." He answered, looking between the two humans. He turned to Nike who was smiling eagerly at him, "And as for you, Goddess Nike; your sounds are very pleasant yet fierce. You're a goddess with a benevolent heart and a warrior's spirit. You're kind, loving, loyal, and playful, protective with unwavering confidence. Of all the gods I've met, I like your sounds the most."
