A soft sigh escaped your lips as the car disappeared in the distance. You turned around and spotted Damien staring at you with an affectionate gaze as he leaned against the wall nearby with his arms crossed over his chest. You approached him before stopping with a smile plastered on your face.
"You did great," he said briefly, a proud expression on his face.
"Yeah, that was nerve-racking, but I'm glad we pulled it off." You chuckled slightly.
"Indeed, I'm proud of you, princess. I'm sorry if you felt intimidated and nervous around her," he sighed in resignation before he ran a hand through his hair. "It's just that she's always been like that around people. She might seem wary, but it's just a facade of hers. Deep down, I know that she's starting to grow fond of you now that you're part of our family. So, give her more time, and you two will get along just fine. I'm sure of it," he explained with a hint of understanding and care in his tone.
You couldn't help but chuckle a bit at his statement. "Don't worry. I understand, and I think I'll win her approval in no time," you reassured Damien, which put him at ease.
"Alright then, glad to hear that from you. Well, I think I better get going now. I still have a meeting to attend at the company. I'll see you later then." He nodded a bit and pulled you into a tight embrace, inhaling the scent of your shampoo from your hair before placing a soft kiss on top of your head.
"Bye, take care, and enjoy your day." His voice was soothing. He gradually pulled away from the hug, adjusted his suit, and gave you a playful wink before he walked towards the front door. His footsteps echoed against the marble floors of the mansion, and the sound of a soft thud from the door closing could be heard. The mansion was suddenly filled with deafening silence.
"Great, I'm alone again," you mumbled to yourself before you went to the living room to unwind for a bit. You walked over to the couch and sat down before leaning back against it, shifting slightly in your seat for a more comfortable position.
The day was strangely dull and gloomy. Your eyes were shut until you heard your phone vibrating. You let out an exasperated sigh, and your eyes fluttered open for a moment, adjusting to the bright light in the room. Your gaze followed down to your left where the phone was vibrating nonstop.
You reluctantly picked it up, and the caller ID shown on the screen was from an unknown number. A sudden sense of unease could be felt. You took a deep breath before answering the call.
"Hello?" your voice echoed on the other end of the line, and a loud static sound interrupted the silence, causing you to flinch in surprise.
"W-what the heck?!" you exclaimed.
Your heart began to race before someone spoke with an eerily familiar voice. You froze, and your hands trembled in fear as you listened intently.
"Glad you picked it up," he chuckled. A man's voice could be heard on the other end; it sounded deep and husky. Despite being on call, you could visualize the mysterious man smirking deviously at your reaction. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue? I think it did," he added with a taunting tone.
There was a long pause. You took a moment to regain your composure before you answered.
"W-who are you?" you asked, your voice cracking a bit.
"Aww〜...Have you seriously forgotten about me? Because I could still vividly remember you, Y/n." A chill ran down your spine as you realized the person speaking to you.
"T-this...can't...No...this can't be," you mumbled.
A low and dark chuckle echoed from the other end of the line.
"It's me, you guessed it right, Y/n. I'm your beloved husband's rival. I prefer the term nemesis," he remarked.
"No, why are you calling me? You were supposed to be in jail...H-how?" You were perplexed and intrigued at the same time.
"Well, let's just say I made it out in a short time with a bit of help from my most trusted friend. But that's not important now, is it?"
"What do you want?" you asked, gripping the phone tighter.
"You're asking me what I want? Well, what I want is revenge and the other one...you." A devilish grin formed on the man's face as he listened to your voice along with the unstable, heavy breathing.
"You can't be serious!" you retorted, the nervousness and frustration evident in your tone.
"Oh, I am dead serious, and I get what I want whether you like it or not. Soon you'll be at my mercy,". Your heart sank as you heard those words from him.
"I'll see you soon," his voice dropped into a whisper with a dangerous intent in it.
The phone call soon ended, and you put your phone down next to you on the couch. A flood of thoughts coursed through your mind, seeking answers to questions and mysteries in your head. You were too stunned to comprehend everything that had just happened.
"Wh...what the fuck just happened?" you muttered to yourself as you looked across the room for any signs of someone else's presence in the mansion with you, but there was none. A sinking feeling engulfed you, and you felt a bit paranoid about the whole scenario.
"It's not him, it couldn't be possibly him," you thought to yourself. "This is bad."
