Chapter 4: Tomah

AN: Here's an update, just a very short chapter.

Chapter 4: Tomah

   One week later. Jonas is spending his time reading books. Currently, he is at his new home together with his foster parents. The day that Jonas woke up in the Hospital and talked with his foster parents, was also the day that the doctor declared him to be alright and allowed him to go home.

It's strange. Shouldn't he just rest first?

" Aside from amnesia, you appeared to be completely recovered. You can take the kid and go home. This isn't K Corp that can accommodate as a top priority. Other patients need this room. So your kid should be dismissed as soon as possible. "

Jonas's foster parents agreed to the Doctor's suggestion. Aside from those issues, maybe his foster parents don't have enough money to let Jonas stay in the Hospital for a few more days.

In the present, Jonas is reading some books that they have at their home. Jonas was thankful that he could read some of the books. Jonas discovered that the City's language is diverse. They have English, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, etc.

The city is a mix hotpot of various cultures. Divided into different districts each district is ruled by various wings. The Wings are Corporations.

Even without his complete memories, Jonas could tell that living in this dystopian world of capitalism sucks.

Jonas and his parents currently live at the nest of District 7. The one who governs the District 7 is the G Corp.
According to his foster parents, they were fortunate to live in a district's nest rather than the backstreet. District's Nest residents have more comfortable lifestyles than the people who live on the backstreet where syndicates are rampant.

The backstreets of the city are more dangerous and lawless. And according to them, they formerly lived in the backstreets of District 7. It was thanks to his foster brother Tomah that they were now living in the nest of District 7.

They described his brother as Kind and Hardworking. According to them, he doted on Jonas a lot since he was adopted by his parents when he was a newborn.

Jonas didn't come from the Orphanage when they adopted him. Rather than that, he was found at their doorsteps with a name already given to him. According to his foster parents, it was Tomah who pleaded to his parents to be welcomed at their household at that time instead of being delivered to an orphanage. His foster parents at that time are rather reluctant considering that their state of living in the backstreets aren't the best.

Even without memories of the original Jonas, he could tell that Tomah is a very kind and doting brother.

A brother who has done his best and sacrificed himself so that his parents and little brother could live a comfortable life in a nest. Even at the cost of his own life.

It's been 3 years since his brother died. 3 years since he died in duty by participating in that war.

The smoke war. A war that happened in District 12 with various corps participating in it being divided into 2 factions. The former L Corp faction and those who oppose it.

The former G Corp sided with the former L Corp. His brother was a soldier for the former G Corp. The faction of the former L Corp lost the war. As a result of that, the former L Corp fell and the former G Corp collapsed. Now, there was a new G Corp in the District 7.

A Wing that dabbles in Gravity, unlike the former G Corp that dabbles in Genetics.

While Jonas was currently spending his time reading books inside his room, there was a knock on his door.

" Jonas? May I come in? "

There was his mother calling outside of his room.

" Yes, please come in! "

Opening the door, his mother entered the room. She smiled when saw him reading a book.

" Reading, again? "

Jonas nodded his head. He frowned when he noticed the absence of his father.

" Where is the father? "

" He's currently at work. "

Seeing Jonas' confusion, his mother smiled at him and explained.

" Your father is a Grade 6 fixer working for an office founded after the smoke war. Even if your brother's participation and achievements in the smoke war are enough to let us live here in the nest, it isn't enough to let us here live for more than 3 years. "

Jonas nodded his head.

" Anyway, That isn't what I came here for Jonas. It's been one week since you have been discharged from the Hospital. Before your accident, you are a middle school student. Jonas, I wanted to ask if you want to continue attending the school or do you want to stay here and be homeschooled. Your school has online classes and we can move you there if you want. "

Jonas ruminated.

" It's alright if you don't instantly make your decision, I can wait until tomorrow Jonas. "

After saying those words, Jonas's mother left leaving him alone in his room. Jonas pondered. What would be his decision? What would be his answer to his mother tomorrow?
