Kanae's POV:-

I was running at my top speed through the snowy mountain to reach my destination.

"CAW CAW!! We are arriving near the area where the demon was last seen. CAW!!"

I slowed my pace a bit after hearing my crow, until I came across a small building in the middle of the snowy forest.

I walked around the building, hoping to ask the resident some questions that might help me, but...

"Is that... Oh no."

I saw blood on the snow in front of what seemed like the main entrance. I rushed over quickly, hoping my fears would be unfounded.

But...

Seeing this whole family dead boiled my blood and further proved how foolish my dream of becoming friends with demons was.

I can't blame all of this on the demons; I could have saved them if only I was faster. I am also guilty for arriving late.

I entered the house and joined my hands.

"I'm sorry for arriving late... If I had arrived sooner, I may have been able to save you all." I bowed.

I straightened up and started to investigate, coming across some footprints and a small trail of blood. It could only mean one thing: the trail was left by either a demon or a survivor. I rushed in the direction of the trail, hoping to find a survivor.

After some running, I started to hear loud noises.

"Nezuko!! STOP IT!"

"GAAAH!"

I arrived at the scene, seeing a red-haired boy with an axe holding back a demon girl who was trying to bite him.

I rushed over, trying to strike at the demon girl's neck, but incredibly, the boy saw my attack and pushed the demon out of the way. Even though he pushed her back, my katana still managed to slash across her back, deeply wounding her.

"Agghh!"

The demon girl growled on the floor, regenerating super slowly, which means only one thing: she is a new demon, and they are dangerous to everyone around. Becoming a demon is a painful process. The body uses every last bit of its energy to ensure survival. When a demon is born, it is like a newborn baby with rate sharp claws and teeth that can tear through anything. It sees everything as food, even its own kind, to replenish the energy lost during transformation.
