Summary: in a world where you can't see colour until you meet your soulmate. There was no war in this au

It's been 17 years and Sokka still hasn't seen colour. His father and sister both have and pretty much his entire village has too. He was one of the only ones that hasn't met his soulmate yet. His sister Katara had met hers last year and was finally able to see colour. Her soulmate was the avatar of all people. Of course she gets the coolest soulmate ever... his is probably some random girl. What if she lived in the earth kingdom? How would he ever meet her? What if he was stuck seeing in black and white forever?

This summer, his father decided to take him and his sister on a little trip to the fire nation. Sokka has never been outside of his village in the South Pole. Apparently the fire nation had some really good scenery... as if that would do any good for Sokka.

They arrived in the capital city of the fire nation. Katara couldn't stop spewing about how pretty everything was. Did she forget that he can't see what she sees? Sokka wished more than anything to be able to meet his soulmate and finally see colour. He would travel all over the world for that sole purpose.

As they continued walking through the city, they saw a massive crowd in one of the streets.
"Hey, what's going on here?" Asks Hakoda to one of the people in the crowd.
"The fire nation royal family is passing through here as part of a parade! It's going to be amazing to see them all up close"
"Oh wow, that's really cool actually. Kids, come here, the royal family is passing through here"

Hakoda, Katara and Sokka moved through the crowd to get a better view of the people about to pass through the street. At first, there were about 30 royal guards walking in the front. Then people started cheering when three people turned the corner of the street. Sokka recognized them from when he saw them in new letters. There was Firelord Ozai in the front and by his side there was Prince Zuko and Princess Azula.

Sokka couldn't take his eyes off the Princess. He had seen her picture before, but she was absolutely gorgeous in person. She had turned her head to the side and for moment they locked eyes. Suddenly, something incredible happened... he was seeing in colour! Everything around him wasn't black and white anymore. It all happened after he made eye contact with Princess Azula.

Clearly something must have happened to her too because right after making eye contact with him she did a double take and turned around to look at him again with a shocked look on her face.

"Azula, face the front" her father, Ozai, told her.
"Yes father..." she said as she turned around to look in front of her. She could see in colour now... after she made eye contact with that boy. Who was he? She had never seen him before. She had to find him again.

"Dad, I could see in colour..." said Sokka to Hakoda.
"Wait really?! You can?! Did this just happen?!" Hakoda said
"It happened after I made eye contact with Princess Azula"
"Princess Azula?! Are you serious? You're sure it was her?"
"I'm sure of it. She even looked back at me afterwards, I think it happened to her too"
"I can't believe it... my son and the princess of the fire nation"
"Yeah, I can't believe it either. I have to go after her" Sokka said and then started running down the street, trying to keep up with the royal family.

He tried to see Princess Azula again but he couldn't get a good look at her since the crowd was even bigger now. The royal family started approaching the palace. He needed to speak to her before it was too late. He sprinted down the street, following the crowd, until he reached the royal palace. He pushed himself to the front of the crowd and waited until the royal family reached him.

Once he saw them walking by he yelled as loud as he could.
"Princess Azula!"
She looked over at him and her eyes widened. She didn't say anything though, she simply mouthed one word to him before she walked into the palace.
"Wait" he saw her mouth to him.
