Benny.
I smiled as I watched Caroline sprint off to go see Emmy and Ash, we were quite lat eto be honest but it was fine because this would go on for a while. Kenny walke up to me a shit eating grin on his face.
"I could kiss Caroline for this." He told me enthusiastically.
I shot him a warning look and he rolled his eyes, "not like that you idiot. Just because her setting me up with the idea of taking Ash to prom was the best she's ever had! i've never had so much fun with someone in my life."
I clapped him on the back, "what can I say, my girlfriend is a genius."
"I can't disagree with that." Kenny muttered, "I can't believe Ash's douche of a boyfriend wouldn't want to take her to prom. I mean, you'd think he's never met her, who wouldn't want to spend time with her?"
Caroline had been smart to set them up, it wasn't hard to see how much Kenny cared about her best friend.
"I still don't even know how I got Caroline to spend time with me," I muttered watching her dance around with Emmy. "She is so unbelievably out of my league."
"True." Kenny replied jokingly, "but it's not hard to see how in love with you she is. Plus you managed to get her to like you first."
Now that was a miracle if anything, the fact that I had not only gotten Caroline but also managed to get her to like me first might just be my greatest achievement so far. "That must have been some kind of angel." I replied running my hand through my hair.
"Too bad." Kenny continued, "because I wouldn't mind your advice right now."
"Nah, you're doing fine." I reassured, "I mean you got her to go out with you, and she liked you before she met the moron so you're in a good spot."
"I hope so." He responded, "I really don't want to fuck this up for myself."
I knew exatly how he was feeling.
Caroline sprinted over to me a grin on her face, "come dance with me!" she exclaimed breathlessly, before turning to Kenny, "you too, Ash needs a partner so you should go ask her before someone else does."
That had him running.
"You're a menace." I told her amused as we walked onto the dance floor, "you know she wpuld have rejected anyone else."
Caroline shrugged, "true, but it never hurts to keep people on their toes."
I laughed grabbing her hand and spinning her around, "I forgot, you like your Dad vehemently dislike slackers." I imitated her voice teasingly.
"Took the words right out of my mouth." Caroline replied her eyes crinkling slightly as she smiled, "that counts for you too. I can't have you giving up just because I'm your girlfriend now, I expect my full year round princess treatment, I have to live up to the nickname you gave me afterall."
"Who would have thought I was thinking that far ahead when I came up with it?" I asked raising my eyebrows.
"Looks like you wanted me long before I wanted you." Caroline joked airily.
I laughed pulling her closer, "now lets not get ahead of ourselves. You fell first after all."
"It's called being in touch with your emotions." Caroline countered.
"It's called, you like me before I liked you." I quipped grinning, "you are never living that down."
She laughed, "I had a feeling you might say that. Just be glad I'm not here dancing with Jordan Phillips."
I was glad. She had no idea how happy I was to see her hear with me and not that puffed up, head-up-his-ass, pathetic excuse of a baseball player. "You'd never last with him as your date, he'd annoy the hell out of you before you even reached the dance floor." I said instead.
"Want to bet?" Caroline asked her crystal blue eyes twinkling in the disco light.
"Absolutely not." I replied quickly, "I cant imagine anything worse."
"I guess it's a good thing I can't either." She told me in a low voice, "not that I won't do it if you piss me off enough."
"Oh believe me, I have no doubts about that." I told her. This was Caroline, she wouldn't let me off easily, but that was one of the things I liked most about her anyways.
Caroline.
I had been so right. This had been one of the best nights of my life, Ash even had such a good time that she broke it off with her dumbass boyfriend. If she and Kenny got together for real this time it would be the best.
Benny, well, that was a given that we'd have fun, I would never have picked myself a borng boyfriend. Or at least, I would have knowing what I know now, Benedict was unfortunately a major fluke in the system but thankfulLy I was way past that little horror story.
If someone had told me at the start of the tutoring that I'd be going to prom with Benny as my boyfriend and hating Benedict't stupid guts I would have had them institutionalised. But this was the best outcome ever, I was here with a guy who actually liked me for me, and he was here alone because no one wanted him after they hear about his pathetic little freak out when we'd had our last date.
Good riddance that. He would have made a horrible boyfriend.
Benny dropped me off at home before walking back to his, when I got back I saw my father, Will and Parker fast asleep in front of the TV which was on full volume. I switched it off covering them in a couple blankets before going up to my room. Once I was in bed I looked out of the window and at the sky, "Ich hatte den schönsten Abend heute Mami." (I had the lovliest evening tonight Mom.) I whispered hoping she could see me from up there. I wanted her to know that everything was alright now, that it had figured itself out. "Ich hab dich lieb." (I love you).
