Chapter fifty:

YOU GUYS IM SO SORRY
I haven't continued it for a while and I'm really sorry about that. I'm also really greatful to you guys for reading this. I have quite a bit of trouble with where to take this story, since it's already so long, not to mention that idk if I even want to end it 😭

I'm struggling with where to take this story and how to end it-
Like please if anyone has an idea, perhaps I should start a second book or whatnot- but bro- I need to end this book somehow because it's so long and I doubt a lot of people nowadays read long stories 💀

As he dove down to capture the male's lips again, a kunai whizzed passed his ear, embedding itself next to the head of the blonde, who didn't look too surprised, much to Shikamaru's wonder. That was basically an assassination attempt and he acted like it was a mere toothpick being thrown at him.

Shikamaru felt anger bubble up inside of him, annoyed that he'd been interrupted so rudely, and appaled that the stranger dared to try and hurt his Naruto.

He looked back at where the kunai came from, shooting a withering gaze in that direction. Naruto looked confused past Shikamaru, noting how the male seemed to be annoyed, and watching as he placed his hands together in the position that he did every time he thought about a strategy.

The shadow-nin thought about what to do, disregarding the assaults that followed. He knew who he was with, and he knew he was safe. Naruto would never let anyone of his friends get hurt. In fact, if he so much as likes you, he'll protect you with his life on it. Reassured by the other's presence, the male took his time to think up a plausible plan as Naruto dealt with the attacks.

Once he got a strategy, he got up from his crouched position, placing his hand on his shoulder to calm him down. It worked like charm, the non-stop yapper now all ears to the nara. Shikamaru smiled at the thought, looking back to where the enemy is, then leaning down to whisper in his ear, never taking his eyes off their target. Naruto nodded in understanding, this was going to be an easy win for them after all.

"Got it." Was all the blonde said as he moved. It was.. too fast for the eyes. All that could be seen was a mere flash of yellow, reminiscent of that of the late 4th hokage. Shikamaru on the other hand, used the shadows of the trees to extend his own, mapping the place out while trying to catch the enemy off guard and paralyze him. Naruto made quick work of the followers, doing a wonderful job at distracting the male, giving Shikamaru the perfect opening.

There wasn't much effort put into dispatching them, considering the plan worked flawlessly, just as was to be expected of a Nara. Once they were dealt with and tied up(can you tell that I got lazy and don't wanna write this fight-scene?), they regrouped.

Naruto smiled at Shikamaru, offering a thumbs up. It was his way of showing his appreciation, while also telling the male how well it all worked. Shikamaru however, he didn't really pay attention to the gesture. Instead, he got closer to the jinchuriki, placing both arms around his waist and pulling him in. He pressed closer to the male, letting him feel his racing heart. Naruto was caught off guard by the sudden action, even more so once he felt the other's heartbeat. Was it for his safety, or was it... for him?

After a quick shake of the head though, he quickly wrapped his arms around Shikamaru in kind, puling him close aswell and letting the other feel his own, optimistic heart. Naruto was about to lean his chin on Shikamaru's neck, when he acted before him, leaning down to bite Naruto's neck.

The blonde let out a surprised, high-pithed yelp, his grip on the male's broad shoulders almost painful. However, he quickly recovered and smacked him upside the head. "Shikamaru! I was going to cuddle you, why would you do this?" He may have been annoyed, but he was surprised he did what he had. "Are you really that surprised? I thought you'd like it when I did that?" Sure, Shikamaru may be a smart ass, but he wouldn't let him show off any longer. "Yeah right, how would you feel if I did that to you?!"

The male chuckled before replying. "You know, I'd actually like that." Naruto simply froze. This lazy genius that wouldn't move a single muscle unnecessarily, the very same, was being surprisingly affectionate and loving, something he hadn't expected of him. Certainly not of any Nara. He thought their laziness was ingraved into their blood, that it even extended to love. He never once thought that the male would be as engaged in the matter as he was.

And man, they boy did not know what to say to that. He was at a simple loss for words. Shikamaru took advantage of that however, deciding to tease the male. "What? I thought you were a fox? Don't they bite people all the time?" It was a jab at his jinchuriki side, but a friendly one, which made Naruto snap out of his daze and playfully hit his arm. "I think that's about enough from you now. We should get back to the others!" It was a warning and he was going to leave Shikamaru behind if he couldn't keep up.
