Reyna
After class, everyone was tired, but I was on a whole other level. Years of service as the praetor of Camp Jupiter should have made me stronger, but these days, I was tired, tired of being alone. Sure, I had friends and loved ones, but I felt like an outcast. Everyone had partners and family. Even Thalia, who had Jason.
Sighing to myself, I walked towards the Ravenclaw dorms. I probably shouldn't feel like this. The Seven had been through so much more. Nico had been through so much more. Heck even Coach Hedge had been through more than me. I was just being selfish.
I was cut out of my thoughts abruptly, when I got to the pale blue door with a bronze eagle door knocker. I hesitated, not knowing what to do. I raised my hand and knocked on the door.
"What fills a room, but takes up no space?" the eagle asked. Huh. I guess the password was a riddle. I decided to think about this like a strategy. Logically, like Annabeth would. Well, it couldn't be a liquid, or a solid, because they take up space. The only other possibility was air, but that technically took up space. Then it would have to be something abstract. Like darkness, or shadows, or... of course. Light.
"Light," I replied confidently. The door swung open, to reveal a beautiful round room, with walls covered in mahogany bookshelves. It was like a personal library. Low tables with cushions were scattered around the room, some of which had groups of friends studying, talking or in some cases, playing wizard chess. Actually, if I looked closer, I could see built in chess boards in some of the tables. A couple individual study pods fringed the room too, with some seventh years obviously studying for their big wizarding education tests, like our SATs. Out of all of the house areas, I bet Ravenclaw's was the most futuristic. A couple empty spaces on the wall were covered in graph paper, or blackboards, littered with designs, ideas and plans. Late afternoon light filtered through round windows, and the ceiling was painted dark blue, with flowing curtains cascading over arches. I spotted a deep brown door emblazoned with 'Fifth Year Girls' in gold letters.
Walking up the set of stairs circling around the common area was easy. I pushed open the door to find a beautiful room, painted dark blue. Bronze highlights dotted the room, catching the light. Six beds draped with cyan curtains decorated the room, each with a trunk at the end. They all had personal decorations, like posters and banners, with photos on bedside tables, except one. Obviously, it was to be my bed. My trunk lay at the end, and the bedsheets were all neatly laid out.
I began to take things out of my trunk, placing them on my bed, or on the bedside table. Eventually, my dorm mates started arriving. They introduced themselves as Cho Chang and Padma Patil. My forehead furrowed. I recognized those names... Then I remembered. Harry had mentioned Cho. She was the one whose boyfriend was killed by Voldemort. And Padma was the girl Ron had taken to the Yule Ball. They just dropped their things off, before grabbing some homework and quills. They both went downstairs to the common room, most likely to study with friends.
Next, a couple other girls began to file in. They were a bit more friendly.
"Hi! My name's Zara Campbell. You must be the new transfer student. This is Julia Foong and Murphy Sun." She dumped her satchel, and flopped down onto her bed, burying her face into the pillow.
"Get up, Zara. There's homework to do. You're coming down with us. Don't forget it's O.W.L year," Murphy commanded. Zara just groaned. She paused for a second, turning to me. "Hi. As that one just said, my name's Murphy, but at this point I've accumulated so many nicknames that you won't ever hear anyone call me that. In fact, you can just call me Fae." Then she went over to Zara's bed, and started tugging her arm. "You guys going to help or no? I have a feeling this is going to take more than one person," she directed at Julia and I.
"Ugh, fine. But I don't get why we need to study. This year's curriculum is easy." Julia complained.
"Yes, Miss 'I learned the Curriculum a year ahead'. Come on, some people could benefit from the treasure stores of knowledge in your brain," Murphy rolled her eyes. I just watched, impressed and slightly amused. "Well, are you coming mysterious new kid? If you are, you better tell us your name," she said.
"I'm Reyna." I replied.
"Yeah, weren't you listening to the Sorting Hat?" Zara asked in a teasing tone, finally raising her head from where she had faceplanted.
"Unlike your photographic memory, mine only applies to most random things. It's very picky. Besides, it's more polite to ask," Fae shot back, "You sure are taking a long time to decide," she told me, raising an eyebrow.
"Sure. I don't get the Transfiguration homework that we got." I replied.
"At this point no one does," She muttered under her breath, "I'm starting to think the homework was enchanted to transform our brains into sludge."
A/N:
Guys, be proud of me. I updated. And now I have someone to remind me to update. Thanks @MurphyFae, who was in fact the inspiration for the character 'Murphy Sun' and also who wrote her speech. Yay.
Oh quick question, anyone know if prefects have meetings? I know they aren't mentioned in the Harry Potter books, but I think it could happen. Because I need to introduce the beautiful prefects you guys made!!! And develop their personalities by actually mentioning them! (Sorry for not writing about them yet)
Question of the chapter: Would you rather be a demigod or a wizard?
Anyways, byeeeee
