Harry's POV
When I wake up, she's still fast asleep. That gives me some time to call Marie, Anna's mother. I've been calling her to update her on Anna's situation since the accident. I haven't talked to her a lot since Anna woke up, because I don't want Anna to find out. I briefly told Marie about the memory loss. Now, I want to ask her to come visit, but I also need a favour.
I go into the hallway so I won't wake Anna and I dial Marie's number. She answers on the second ring. "Harry?" She says with a worried voice. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, don't worry, it's all good." I reassure her.
I hear her sigh in relief. "How is Anna?"
"Well, they did an MRI, and she has a brain contusion. They doubt if her memory will ever come back. Anna and I have decided to try everything to make it come back, though."
She falls silent for a moment. "So everything's really gone? How bad is it?"
"She doesn't remember anything from about three years ago. She doesn't even remember meeting me. It's really terrifying." My eyes tear up again. I hate that they keep doing that. I don't want to cry.
"How are you guys holding up?" Marie's so kind, she's the best mother-in-law I could have wished for.
"We're okay, I guess. We're getting used to it. I played her our songs, and the boys paid a visit yesterday. She gets really tired quickly, so we don't leave the room much. But I like being around her, being able to talk to her again."
"I understand. It must have been hard, not talking to her for over a month. So she doesn't remember the whole..."
"No." I interrupt her. I don't want to hear her say the words. I can't bear hearing them.
"Have you told her?"
"No." I say again.
"Are you going to?" I think I hear a hint of disapproval in her voice.
"I'm not sure. You know, this is actually a really great opportunity to forget about what happened, since she already did." I decide I should just be honest with her about what I've been thinking. I've always been honest with her.
"You don't feel guilty about that?"
"Well, I'll tell her when the time is right, of course. I just want to see how things will go from here." The last couple of months were... Different. Not so great. I've heard it happens to other couples when something like that happens to them.
"You really shouldn't wait too long. Before you know it, you're at a point of no return and if she finds out then, it will get even worse."
"I know."
"So has she asked about me yet?"
"Yeah, she did."
"And what did you tell her?""That you guys haven't been talking lately. I didn't tell her why. I'll have to come up with something. That's actually the favour I wanted to ask you..." I say, a little hesitant with what I'm about to ask her, because I know it's a big favour.
"Oh no, Harry, you can't ask that from me."
"Marie, please. I just want things to go back to normal between Anna and me. This is the perfect chance. Don't you want that too? For things to be good again between you and her?"
"Yeah, maybe I do. I hate not talking to her." Her voice sounds sad. I know she's had a hard time processing, and Anna wouldn't let her. Anna was a mess. And so was I.
"Right. We'll tell her when the time is right. Just not now. She's got so much to process already."
"That's true." I can tell from her voice that I'm winning her over. "I would also really love to see you two happy again." She adds.
