Sage's POV:
"I'm sage-" the call disconnected.
Well... I guess I won't hear from her again.
I don't bother to touch Rosa's phone again and put it back in her purse while trying to keep my eyes on the road.
I hate driving at night, but I'm willing to do it for her. She's one of my best friends, I would literally die for her.
And no, I don't necessarily like her like her. Rosa's just a friend.
Rosalie jerked awake. She's been getting these nightmares almost every time she sleeps.
"You good?" I drawl, my southern accent moving through the small cab of my truck.
She doesn't look at me and looks at the road. "No..." she sighed. "I'm not."
I reach for her hand and she doesn't pull away. "You wanna talk about it today, or do you still need time. You know you can tell me things, Rosa." I say.
She slumps back in her seat. "I'm not ready..." she says, and sighs. She let's go of my hand. "Why must you be so nice to me?"
I'm kinda taken aback by her question. Why would she even have to think that I have to be nice to her. I do it because I love her.
"Because you deserve it, don't you dare go sayin' otherwise again." I huff out and glance over at her. She's hugging herself.
"Sorry..." she mumbles and puts a hand to her head as we pull up to the ranch. I drive to her house.
Everyone here rents a house to stay in, I share one with my siblings, and she's lucky she gets the biggest house despite her living alone. I guess she has been here longer than us though.
"Do you want me to walk you to the door?" I ask and turn off the engine.
She nods and gets out. I follow close behind her.
She stops at her door and looks at me. "Can I get a hug? I could use one." She still doesn't look at me, but I could see a light shade of pink dusting her cheeks.
I'm pretty sure she's the one who likes me likes me. I've seen the clues and the hints, but I'm not interested. I try not to play into it much so I don't hurt her. I only see her as a friend, nothing more.
I nod and wrap my arms around her small body and she hugs back.
"By the way, your sister called when you were passed out." I say randomly, just now thinking about it. "I didn't get to talk to her much, but she seemed nice."
"Oh, I'll have to call her back. And you'll be seeing more of her soon..." she says sleepily.
I raise an eyebrow. "How so?"
"She's gonna be staying for a week this coming Monday." She says and yawns, pulling away from me.
I think about that. I heard her say something about Journee living in a city, I can't for the life of me remember which one, but I dont wanna deal with a city girl for a whole fucking week.
I don't need some chick whining about gettin' dirty.
"Oh, that's... good I suppose. What's she like?" I say. Not gonna lie, on the phone she had an attractive voice. It sounded nothing like Rosalie's, hers being a little more deeper.
"Oh she's great. I think you'll like her, and I'm pretty sure I can persuade her into doing some work." She smiles a bit, but looks sad. "I haven't seen her in 2 years."
I sigh and pat her head. She's so short. "Well, I'll look forward to it."
We said goodbye and I got back in my truck and started to drive back to my house.
I came in and could hear.... noises upstairs. Jesus, Seth.
I knew he said he was leaving with a girl at the bar but I didn't think he'd take her back to the ranch!
I walk into the kitchen and find Sloane reading, a steaming cup of tea on the counter next to her.
"Couldn't sleep. That bitch is fucking loud." She says as I walk in. I look through the fridge, mostly out of boredom.
"I can tell... Why's he have to bring them buckle bunnies home with him? He knows we have to get up pretty early and he's wasting his energy on a whore." I pour myself a glass of sweet tea and stand next to my sister.
She shrugs. "Can't hold down a relationship, I suppose." She looks up at me, the bags under her eyes visible. She's been struggling with insomnia, and Seth's sex sounds don't help.
I get a smirk on my face when I think of an idea. Sloane sighs and turns back to her book, knowing what I'm doing.
I walk upstairs, but the sounds die down. Maybe I should go easy on him this time.
Last time he did something like this, I opened the door wide, but made sure not to look. That bitch screamed like a banshee and woke up the Morgan's.
Technically, he's not allowed to do shit like this anymore, but just like the stubborn ass he is, he won't listen.
Since I could hear they were done, I knock.
"Can you get her to leave? We have work in the morning, Seth!"I hear a groan and some shuffling, and then he opens the door, he must've just pulled on his jeans becaue he hadn't ziped them yet or buttoned them. "Damnit Sage, we were just about to go for round 2." He whined quietly.
I was disgusted. "Get that whore out of here, Sloane needs her sleep. I thought you had a heart, brother..." I pick, smiling smugly, and he scowls at me.
"'Course I do..." He runs a hand through his messied hair. "Fine, I'll tell her to leave."
"Thank you." I smirk and grab him by the neck, giving him a nougie. He cried out a bit in protest and I let loose of the bastard.
I walk to my room, I share it with Sloane because this house only has two bedrooms. Seth said he wanted privacy, and it's a good thing he doesn't share a room with anyone.
I sit on the edge of my bed and take my boots off. But for the love of me and I couldn't get that girls voice out of my head.
🤍
