Sage's POV:
I had just gotten done catching a sick cow when the Morgan's tell me I gotta go get a fallen electric line out a damn tree.
I've already been a little on edge since today's the day that Rosa's sister is coming, it could be anytime.
Rosalie drove to the airport to go pick her up, and I know she should be back soon since she left at 8 and it's almost an hour after noon.
I climb the tree easily and try to untangle the line from the branches, but this damned thing.
I stand on the branch to get a better look at where exactly it's stuck, and that's when I see her.
First I see Rosalie, and then her standing next to her. From far away they look alike, but good God... they do have differences and that Journee is the prettiest I have ever se- SHIT!
I hit the ground with a hard thud and a sharp pain shot through my leg. I try and sit up and see a glimpse of my leg and I don't think it's supposed to bend that way.
Maybe climbing to the higher branch was a bad idea.
I lay back down, wallowing in my pain and that pretty blonde crouched down beside me, and I don't know what came over me.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay?!" She says , her voice as soothing as I remember.
"I'm okay now that your here." I put my hands on the back of my head and try to play it cool, despite the terrible pain I'm feeling.
The look of panic she has falters and then she glares at me. She ignores my comment it seems and moves down to look at my leg.
"It's broken. Just from a first glance I can tell it's broken." She says, her tone now sounding, professional? Maybe she's a doctor.
"Well, shit. Guess I have to stay home. Rosalie you can cover for me." I look up at her, and she's staring at her sister with an unreadable look, but then looks back at me. "Oh... yea, sure."
"Rosa, help me get him up." She stands and takes my arm while Rosa takes the other. The start helping me back to the main house.
....
Once we get back they settle me on the couch and Esme gets me ice, although I don't think that'll help to put my bones back together.
"I don't know how to treat him, I don't have any supplies here..." Journee, if thats the name I remember she gave me, was speaking to Esme.
Esme looked over at me and then back at her. I couldn't see Rosaie anywhere though. "Maybe you can make a makeshift cast or splint or somethin'. He's my hardest worker, I need him treated." Esme says, and Journee bites her lip and looks over at me.
Holy fuck.
"I-I suppose I can... watch over him." She sighs and looks back at Esme.
Understandable choice, the next hospital is 30 miles away, and we do have a doctor right here so...
"That's great, all the medical stuff is in the bathroom down the hall. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go back to breaking a horse." Esme walked past her and Journee looked confused and concerned. City girls.
She looks back over at me and reluctantly walks over and sits beside me on the couch. Close.
God, I have to stop thinking like this.
She puts a pillow on the coffee table and props my leg up on it.
"I'm gonna go get bandages." She says and stands.
"I think the vet wrap in there would work. We use it on cuts n' shit all the time." He says and she looks back at me. "Vet... Wrap? Are you an animal?"
"In bed." I think, but don't say, thank God.
I just stay quiet and she let's out an exasperated sigh. "I'll just get both if that's what you want."
Good girl, doing what I want her to. What is wrong with me?!?
She leaves and I look back at my leg. It's bent slightly inwards, and it's throbbing.
She comes back with the first aid kit and a roll of vet wrap, which I'm surprised she knows what it looks like.
"This might hurt..." she says and bends over my leg, taking a bandage and then taking my leg and forcefully bending it back to he way it's supposed to go. Then she wraps it with the bandages and then puts vet wrap over it to hold it in place.
She uses up a roll of the vet wrap, trying to make the layer thick, and then goes to get more.
"Mother fucker." I finally cringe at how bad it hurts.
She comes back and starts wrapping it again, and then sits back down when she's done. "Better?" She looks over at me, and I can see her bright green eyes. They were brighter than Rosalie's.
I swallow, and I see her look at my throat, them back to my eyes. "I'm perfectly fine. Thanks Doc." I smirk.
"I'm surprised you stayed still when I was treating it." She looks at my leg.
I nod. I want her closer to me, to wrap my arms around her and kiss her neck- no. Sage, get a grip.
"Are you gonna take care of me?" I say, and give her a pouty look. "You're gonna have to, I can't really do much, sadly."
She pinching the bridge of her nose. "I suppose, but must you have to be... like this?"
I raise a brow. "Like what? Can't handle the charm?" I grin.
She sighs. "Just... nevermind."
I don't press farther. "So, why didn't you move out here with Rosalie?"
She doesn't look back at me. "I wanted to be a doctor, so I went to college. She moved out here instead... she only came back for a little while, but that qas 2 years ago..."
I already know she went back, but no one telling me why. "What happened? If I may ask." I say.
"Our father... died of a heart attack. She came back for the funeral." She picked at her nails.
I stay quiet but I look at her hands. They have cuts all over. Maybe she gets anxious easily. I grab her wrist and pull her arm to her side.
"Don't do that." I explain.
"It's none of you business what I do."
True, but it should be.
I look at her hands again, which she had in her lap now. "You don't like me that much, do you?"
"Not really, no." She glares at me again, and I swear that glare would make meg3t on my knees for her.
She's silent for a moment. "You need anything?" She asks and stands.
"You."
🧡
I really couldn't wait for them to meet, so ta da! I did it early. Besides, I do have more plans. I also don't think this will me that slow a burn, but just wait and find out. Anyways, what are you guy's opinion on this chapter?
