A Nightwing stood in the Nightwing village in the rainforest, watching all the dragonets she was raising play on the dew covered grass. There were mainly Nightwings, but there were also some Rainwings and Leafwings. The Nightwing smiled, knowing some would be going to their own villages soon. I raised them well she thought. They're all going to be great additions to their tribes.
The Nightwing felt a dragon come behind her and she turned, meeting the eyes of a tall, broad shouldered Nightwing in which she hated.
"Caretaker," He greeted the Nightwing.
"Shadowmaker, pleasant to see you," Caretaker said looking back to the dragonets. She despised the Nightwing because he refused to let her love a Leafwing. You must stay focused on your job! He had said to her.
"I don't understand how you put up with so many different tribes! I mean, how do you raise those Rainwings and Leafwings?" He growled, looking at the dragonets.
"Because I care for them as if they are my own. I believe that dragonets should be treated equally, not because of what tribe they come from!" Caretaker snapped, jerking her head to the tall Nightwing.
"But we are better than the tribes that made those filthy dragonets! Think about it this way, if we send the Rainwings and Leafwings to the Poison Jungle, we-"
"Don't use the term 'we' with me, Shadowmaker!" Caretaker yelled at him, "I would never do that to a dragon, nor possibly two whole tribes! This is why I hate being a Nightwing! All the tribe thinks about is overthrowing Queen Greenmoth! I'm done with this, so goodbye forever," Caretaker spread her wings, and flew off to he Rainwings village.

Caretaker glanced down at the village, hoping to spot the Rainwing's animus. Oh, Grape. I really need you at the moment! Grape the Rainwing's animus was like a brother to her. She grew up with him by her side, and she always cared for him. That's how she got her name as Caretaker.
"Grape!" She called down when she spotted the purple Rainwing. He glanced up and smiled at her, then shot up into the air beside her.
"Caretaker! Perfect timing, actually. I just finished that piece of jewelry for you!" Grape said.
"Great! Anywhere private to test it out?" She rushed him.
"Yes! Follow me!" He sped off, Caretaker hot on his tail. They flew for a long moment before Grape dived into a hollow that made Caretaker stand in awe when she landed. There were trees with drapes of orange flowers and fireflies fluttering around.
"My private hollow. I put a dome around so many unwelcome guests couldn't get in. Anyhoo, here." Grape placed something small in Caretaker's talon. She opened it and saw a golden hoop with a glittering sapphire in the middle.
"Oh my stars, it's wonderful!" She hugged him, making him smile.
"I thought you might like it. But I MUST see if the enchantment worked! Try it out!" He was bouncing from talon to talon like a dragonet. She laughed.
She clipped the earring in her ear, and soon felt warmth wash over her. Her looked down at her talon and saw her purplish black fade into a warm green that constantly shifted to different colors.
"I thought you might like to be a Leafwing-Rainwing, so I did that. I gave you shifting scales, venom, and extra strong leafspeak. You do have some pinkish frills like the pink Leafwings have, because I knew you would be unique! I hope you enjoy it, but remember I will always call you Caretaker!" He smiled. Caretaker was speechless at Grape's kindness.
"I-I don't know what to say!" Caretaker hugged him, her leaf-like wings surprising her that she was the one controlling them. She took off to the sky testing out the new wings attached to her. She dropped down to the hollow.
"Hey, do you want to try the leafspeak?" Grape asked.
Caretaker nodded, "I would love to! But, how do I use it?"
"I'm glad you asked! As I told you, I make myself other tribes to understand them better, including Leafwings. All you do is dig your claws, find the plant you wish to grow and speak to it. Tell it what you want it to do and it will do it! Easy!"
Caretaker nodded, and dug her claws into the soft, dew covered grass. She rummaged around, trying to find a blueberry bush. She soon found it, small and weak. Hey little blueberry bush. She said to it.
So lonely... The blueberry bush said to her.
So, do you think you could bloom right here? Grow?
Grow? The blueberry bush sounded happy.
Grow! Be a big bush!
Be a big bush!
Caretaker opened her eyes to see the blueberry bush right in front of her talon, already filled with ripe blueberries. She smiled, picking off a blueberry and tossing it into her mouth.
Grape smiled, taking a blueberry of his own, "I remember you crying on my shoulder about that blueberry bush in the Nightwing village,"
"Yes, that's why I thought of it," she smiled at Grape, "I can't thank you enough for this whole animus touched thing, I really can't!"
"No need," Grape smiled and wrapped one of his wings around Caretaker, "Also, before I forget, I think we need a fake name for you, because I presume that you didn't tell Shadowmaker that you were becoming a different dragon."
"Yeah... But I don't know what name!" Caretaker said.
"I have an idea, but it's completely up to you. What about Maplewood?" Grape suggested.
Caretaker didn't need to think twice before nodding, "I would love that!"

Years have passed, and Caretaker had almost forgotten who she originally was. Her and the Leafwing she loved had taken the place of raising all of the dragonets Caretaker had. Shadowmaker hadn't noticed similarities to Maplewood and Caretaker.
"Maplewood, may I speak to you?" Her lover asked.
"Sure! Excuse me, dragonets." Maplewood said.
Her and the love of her life walked to a hollow behind some low hammocks.
"What is it you would like to speak to me about, Birch?" Maplewood asked.
"Maplewood, I would love to have dragonets of our own with you. But... I want to have them with the REAL you, not the Animus made one," Birch said, taking Maplewood's talon in his.
"This is the real me. I don't know what your talking about!" Maplewood lied, scared of becoming her Nightwing self again.
"I know you know what I'm talking about... Caretaker,"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT! I don't want to be Caretaker again... please... It's hurts to be!" Maplewood cried.
"I know, but Grape told me that if you wanted dragonets of your own, then you would have to take off the earring. Trust me, I know you've wanted dragonets for years, and we can have them. Just be yourself," Birch whispered the last sentence in her ear as though it was a secret. She sighed, though she was scared, she wanted her own dragonets.
"Fine," She glared at him, and he smiled sweetly. She unclipped the earring. Coolness swept over as she saw the warm green she was so use to fade into purplish black. She sighed. She hadn't taken off her earring ever since she received it, now she had to remove it for the sake of her happiness.
"It's good to see you again, Caretaker," Birch said, smiling.
"Doesn't feel as good to be back," she muttered under her breath.
