I walk out of my room and then walk downstairs and make my way out of the house, but before I even make it halfway to the door, Jordyn gets to me and looks at me.
"Hey, Brooks. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Chicken parmesan spaghetti. Your dad said that it was your favourite." She says, and I look at her.
Everyone has been acting like this ever since what happened Saturday night.
They've been feeling pitiful for me.
They feel bad because of what I had to go through, but I don't want their pity. I want to be away from them.
"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm going to my friend's house for the night. I'll be back tomorrow." I say.
"Oh. Maybe I can pack you some before you leave." She says.
"It's fine, Jordyn. I don't like the way you make it anyway." I say and then push past her.
"Hey, now." Dad says and walks into my way, and I sigh.
"Dad, I don't want to talk right now. My friend is outside. I need to go. Please move out of the way." I say, and he looks at my bag.
"These are too many things for one night." He says.
I roll my eyes and look down.
"Alright then. I'm staying for the whole week. I'll be back. Don't worry about me." I say, and he stops me again.
"I don't like that idea. Tell your friend that you're staying home. We need to fix whatever is going on between us anyway." He says.
"Last I checked, I was nineteen. Legally an adult. I go where I please and do as I want. I don't want to be here and I'm going to my friend's house whether you like it or not. So, move out of my way." I say.
"Brooks." He says, and I groan.
"You were there in the car crash with Jade the night she died. Your mother told me you were through the phone yesterday. How come you never told me?" He asks me.
He looks me deep in my eyes with those green eyes. The same green eyes he gave me.
Looking in his eyes is looking at me because of how we have the exact same colour, the same shade, the same pupils.
Except his is more heartbreaking to look at while mine are more painful to look at.
"Let me pass." I say.
"Brooks, please ju-"
"Let me pass!" I shout, and he goes silent and looks at me.
He takes a look at me for a second but then moves out of the way and lets me walk past him and out of the door.
"I fucking hate this place!" I shout, and I can feel his eyes on me as I walk out.
I close the door behind me, and as soon as the door is closed, I hear something break.
I want to turn back to see if everything's okay, but then I see Uri's car at the gate so I ignore it and walk to her and then open the gate with my fingerprint and then walk out and get into the car after putting my things in the trunk.
"Hey." She says, and I smile at her.
"Hi." I say.
"So, how did the job go? Did you get it?" She asks me.
"Guess who got a job now!" I shout, and she cheers for me.
"Yes! Look at you. You're growing up faster than me." She says, and I laugh.
She starts the engine and then starts driving away from the house to her apartment building.
"What does your dad do to able to afford a house like that?" She asks.
