For the most part, I don't have to study or even pay attention in most of my classes cause the teachers would always make the assignments and quizzes so easy that if I cared- I would almost be insulted. Almost.

My honor classes on the other hand were a different story.

But for today, I had nothing to stress about. My marker wrote all the lecture notes for me, it's like magic or something- the pen doesn't move but the text was being written right before me. The last class of the day was always difficult for me. I closed my eyes for only a second and then I felt the weight of my head becoming heavy and uneven. I swayed slowly back and forth for a few seconds until I couldn't resist putting my head and arms down on my cold comfortable desk. It's easy to get a few moments of sleep when you're in the very back of the class.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pinch on my left arm. I nearly jolted out of my seat,

"Whatthe-" I mumbled as I half-turned my head towards the culprit.

"Shhh," Lily responded in a hush whisper. She sat up straight with her eyes focused on the whiteboard but she gave a discrete glance towards me.

I grabbed my marker and jolted down some fun facts presented on the whiteboard. My notebook had pages of organized bullet points, fun facts, questions and answers. But I don't remember turning any pages...

When the bell finally rang, I grabbed my stuff and put my marker in my pocket. I was already out the door when I heard Lily call out for me.

Stubbornly, I slowed down my walking pace just a bit.

"What's up Lily?" I gave a quick yawn as I continued walking down the hallway.

"Don't try to pretend like I didn't see anything, Eek" she caught up next to me.

"Look I'm just trying to go home, can whatever it is wait until tomorrow?" I responded while without any eye contact.

"I know where you live, and no I won't-" Lily took a few big steps ahead and faced me dead in my tracks. "I saw your notes and you've never written anything that organized before"

"Yeah well tutoring finally paid off for me" I said as I brushed past her.

"I've never seen you show up for any tutoring or meeting with any of our teachers for office hours." She stood in front of me with her shoulders tensed. "But I literally saw words appear on your paper."

I tapped my fingers on my thigh as I tried once again to walk past her. "So what?"

"So," she began. Her shoulders relaxed, "I'm just curious, I just want an answer."

I gave a long yawn in front of her face. It only seemed to slightly annoy her.

"Just tell me what it is, I let you copy my notes all the time," She argued.

"Yeah but only because we agreed on the system months ago- we share notes, work with each other for projects, cheat whenever we can- it's a closed deal. " I countered.

"Well then-" she began. I realized I fell for another one of her traps before she even finished her sentence. "lets share notes then," she concluded.

I slightly fixed my poor posture and I straightened myself up, "Alright," I began striding towards the back school gate, "Lets head to my place".

My room wasn't much to look at- a bed, desk, bathroom door that doesn't close properly, trashcan full of energy drinks, a whiteboard I hadn't used in years.

We sat on the floor with our papers laid out and sat across from each other. I fiddled with my marker. Lily had my notebook in one hand reading through 'my' notes and comparing it with hers.

"How're your grades again?" She calmly asked.

"You know, a C for AP Human Geo, Honors Calc III, and uh B minus for English and bio."

There was a moment of silence until- "I don't get it," she started.

"This again?" I mumbled.

" I sit down and study all day and yet you're the one with the better grades?"

I lied down flat on the ground and spoke to the ceiling, "I don't get it either."

Lily tossed my notebook on my stomach and I breathed out a quick puff of air.

"I only wrote down half of what was on the slides how'd you manage to get the whole thing?" It sounded like she herself who she questioned. She collapsed to the floor with her hands in her face.

I gave a short sigh, then sat myself up before saying, "Alright look, from one struggling Honors student to another, I'll show you how I took those notes- it's not really anything too special anyway". I shrugged.

She sat back with her hair covering her face and arms around her legs, "We're both on the brink of getting kicked out of the Honors program, whatever you have is better than nothing".

"Yeah but but promise give me you won't freak out or tell anyone"

She gave a quick nod,

"alright, just hand me a piece of homework problems" I said as I moved to her side.

She took out a her honors geometry homework. I scanned the questions with my marker, Lily's eyes followed the path, and... nothing happened.

"You're not going to actually solve it are you?" She turned to me in a dazed look.

My eyebrows scrunched up, "Uhhh," I shook the pen to maybe get some ink out of it, and tried again. "Do you have any history homework instead?"

"Sure," she answered dismissively

Once again, I traced the question expecting text to suddenly appear in the answer box but it remained blank. I sat dumbfounded and I looked incredibly stupid.

"Look," she began "if you don't want to tell me it's fine,"

"No its not that-" I gave a short laughing scoff as I shook the pen faster and more urgently. I indented short inkless lines in the top right corner.

"Maybe I was just imagining things," She reassured "finals are coming up and I guess we're both stressed out,"

As she was saying this I raised my marker closer to my face. It was then I noticed two pieces of golden silver poking out from the cap that I placed on the end of the marker. My thumb tried to brush it away but was met with a piercing stab. Pain traveled through my arm even after I dropped my marker from my hands. The pen stayed still for a moment until it begin to violently shake,

"What's up with your pen-"

An abrupt flash of light blue light surged from the marker. Both the history and geometry homework were outlined with moving dashed lines. All at once, the papers were scorched with messy scribbled lines. They flowed and danced across the paper until they settled into neat patterns. Then the light dissipated to reveal fully answered pieces of homework.

We stared at each other in disbelief. Lily's eyes looked like she'd seen a ghost and if I had been alone- I would've ran out the room.

After a few moments I cleared my voice,

"I think we have to reexamine our deal"
