A/N: A short and sweet one, taking us to the end of the Road Trip novella, just from Noah's pov. After this, we'll be heading into the material covered by the third book and movie - exciting!!

Elle and I are snuggled up under the covers not really watching a movie when my phone rings. Pressing one more kiss to Elle's lips, I reach behind me to grab for it, rolling my eyes when I see it's my mom calling. Even from the other side of the country, she manages to have exceptional timing. I turn the screen so Elle can see who it is before swiping my thumb to answer the call and sit up against the headboard.

"Hey, Mom," I grin, as Elle eases out of bed, motioning that's she's going to take a shower. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Hi, hon," she answers in that warm tone that somehow always seems to feel like a hug. "I'm just checking in to see how all my children are doing, since your brother seems to be ducking my calls."

Sounds about right. I wouldn't exactly use the term reliable to describe Lee. But, he's probably trying to spend some quality time with his girlfriend, too, before heading back here later tomorrow.

Huffing a laugh, I let Mom know that I'm good, that Elle's been having a good time (I think) and that Lee was fine too, last time he checked in. We chat for a few minutes, but hang up well before Elle exits the bathroom, fully dressed and looking like she's ready to go out. I mean, she looks great, but if I'm being completely honest,  I'd much rather she came back to bed.

"Don't say you're getting all dressed up for me," I drawl, stretching out again. "Why don't you come cuddle?"

"Nope," Elle shakes her head. "We're going out."

"But it's, like, forty degrees out," I protest.

Elle blanches for a second, then steels herself, pursing her lips and squaring her shoulders stubbornly as she meets my eye. "Nope. Lee gets back tomorrow evening so this is the only day I really have with you."

She returns to the mirror then, fishing around in her bag and fussing with her makeup. "Let's go out," she insists.

Chuckling, I throw an arm behind my head, making no move to get out of bed. "Where?"

"Just... out. Anywhere. Let's just go hang out."

Okay, clearly this is important to Elle, and therefore it's important to me, too. Racking my brain for something, somewhere that she might like, I say the first place that pops into my head.

"We could walk by the river?"

It's a terrible idea, because if anything, it'll be even colder down by the water, but it's too late. Elle glances at me with hearts in her pretty blue eyes. "That sounds perfect."

I guess we're going out then. Obligingly, I climb out of bed, stopping only to kiss Elle on my way to the shower. But when I get back, she just looks so damn cute sitting on my bed while she puts on her boots that I can't help going over and kissing her again. I also can't help pressing against her until she's lying back on the comforter, her hands trailing through the back of my hair as she sighs.

"Noah..."

"Hey, watch it," I say, pulling away and patting my hair back down. "You're the one who wanted to go out. I just did my hair specially."

"Please," Elle snorts. "You ran a comb through it."

"Exactly," I smirk, taking her hand in mine as I stand and pulling her up to a sitting position again. "Come on. It's meant to rain later."

Elle groans at that. "Maybe we should just stay in after all."

"Nah," I chuckle. "Come on. We've got all the rest of tonight to stay in together."
