Chapter 10: As We Battle

When Brightmoon is in danger from the Horde's actions, it's up to the four friends to protect the castle from any attacks.

Skyelle uses more of her mermaid magic to give them the advantage.

We narrow in towards the castle, and I look back. Seeing a red light coming from the Fright Zone. "Whatever's happening is coming from over there!"

Adora looks where I'm pointing. Turning back, "Looks like the Horde is behind this." Glimmer glitches some, and she groans. "We need to hurry then."

Swift Wind lands on the ground, wit us hurrying to get inside. Angella was waiting for us. Glimmer runs to hug her mother. "Mom!"

They hug and the sight makes me reminiscent of home. My heart pangs. My parents. They had no clue to where I've gone to. Or that I was in another universe.

Angella turns to us. "I've seen the storm in the distance. We must protect the Moonstone at all costs." My eyes glow blue as I respond. "Well, I'll do anything to protect my new family."

She smiles down at me, and I could see that far away motherly look in her eyes. I knew that everything here was too precious to lose. Even if it'll all change one day.

Adora was saying how she wanted nobody but her to get involved in this mess. I scowl. "Hey. I know what you're thinking- and it's no."

She looks distant for a minute, sighing. "It's my fault that Catra even found the ruins. I'm such a mess up!" I reply back. "Hey. You are not a mess up. We went together- we'll fix this together."

Our friends agree. "Yeah, she's right. Besides, we have each other's backs in this." Glimmer then looks determined. "Let's go kick some butt!"

I smile for the first time that day. "We'll beat them if we do this together." Putting our hands together, we cheer each other on.

Let's do this.

I leave the tray untouched again. This God awful cell was making me go crazy. I can almost hear her voice over again and again. Taunting me as she attacked.

My fists tighten for a second, and I clench and unclench my almost claws, wanting to get out of here for good. And maybe when I get my chance;

I'll leave these ungrateful scum behind. And find that girl again.

We were lead to a whole room full of weapons, making me question it, but ignore my questions about it anyways. We had a war to prepare for.

"Uhm. I can just use my hands. I'm not good with weapons..." Glimmer shrugs. "Just don't regret this." I smirk. "I won't."

Now that they're equipped with new weapons, Angella approaches her daughter. "Oh. That's where all the weaponry went. Did you think I wouldn't notice?"

She looks sheepishly. "I'm sorry mom. I can't just stand by and watch the people I care about get hurt-"

"I know." She's smiling. "I wanted to make you like me for so long. Miserable and stand by when everyone else is fighting. But you've proven me otherwise. So, I am giving you this."

My friend's eyes tear up. "Dad's staff?" I watch awkwardly as they hug, and the queen turns to me. "C'mere. You're as much as family as the others are."

My eyes water. "Th-thank you." She plants a motherly kiss on my head. "You four need to be ready. We have a kingdom to defend."

Gulp.

Tanks approached us, making me slightly nervous. Maybe I should've went with a sword or something. Too late now.

Catra of course was here, why wouldn't she be? And was taunting an already angry She-Ra. That's until she loses her shield somewhere in the water.

"No. No. No." Digging helplessly for it. Leaving us to more tanks. "Shit." A gun is pointed at me. I laugh maniacally.

"Showtime boys." I summon a huge wave behind me. Fist tight as water rises. I speak coldly, "Never mess with a mermaid." My necklace glows with my powers.

I send it towards the incoming army, making tanks fall back. Smirking, I kick some fire at them too. Screams of retreating was wonderful to hear.

Until I noticed my friend was in some hot water. Catra tears her skin, making the blonde yell in pain. "No!" I dash off to them, and send wind to the feline.

"HEY!" I help her up. "You good?" She groans in pain. An arm is around my neck as I help her walk. However I feel something hit me. "Ow!" I tumble into the water.

"Skyelle!" Adora runs to assist me. I grimace, looking at an approaching Catra who was pissed. "Go. Leave me!" She-Ra nods, tearing up. She runs to defend the others.

I get pushed against the ground. "You. What even are you? And what was that?" Water touches me as her foot steps on my lungs. I grin. "Magic."

"What-" Lighting appears, striking near her. She yelps and backs off. I get up, and managed to stay dry enough to make it on land. 

I hear screams behind me, making me freeze. A scorpion girl was attacking Glimmer. I had to help her!

A beam of light goes off, and I watch in awestruck as it does. I look up to see Angella struggling to protect the Moonstone.

Everything was falling apart right in front of me. I was failing as a mermaid.

Until-

A wave attacks Catra and her squad. Mermista! The princesses each arrive, striking a tank. Even Frosta was here. Angella flies down by me. "I sent a beam to get help. Thankfully they came in time."

We were finally winning! Together we take out even more soldiers, and her shield glows. I look to see my necklace glowing blue as well.

Wait- our unity in fighting is doing something.

I look to see the others glowing as well. We look at each other and smile as a wave of rainbow light appears, sending the soldiers away with their weapons. 

"HELL YEAH!" The princesses celebrate, me sending a glance at Adora who was normal again. "Hey, you did great." I bump her elbow playfully.

"You too hot stuff." I then wince. "Skye- are you okay?" I fall into Angella's arms as she catches me. "She's hurt on the leg."

"Must've happened when I tripped earlier..." I say while biting my lip in pain. The queen looks concerned. "Let's get you patched up at least."

Nodding mindlessly as we all walk back together. Trying not to move too much, Angella sets me down to help me walk. "Thank you for assisting us Skyelle. I don't know where Glimmer would be without you as her friend."

Replying with a, "It's no problem. I'm glad to be here." She smiles. I beam one back. It was nice to be appreciated.

This was where I belong, more than anywhere else.
