~Bitzers POV.~
'W...where...am I'
Bitzer thought to himself as he stirred himself awake. Laying on what appeared to be a cold metal bed, Bitzer glanced to the warm presence waiting at his side. Tail wagging softly, hitting against his leg and the bed beneath him, Bitzer smiled as the farmer sat to his right holding Bitzers watch, hat, and his white exercise wristband. 'How long has he been there?' Examining the worried look on the farmers face, Bitzer hums, 'He looks so worried. What happened-'.
Like a flash, the memory of what happened that night brought a bitter smell to Bitzers nose. 'That's right. A wolf tried attacking the flock. I must've passed out right after the farmer came to help. But where am I now?,' taking in the scents around him, Bitzers eyes widened to the familiar grey walls, and the strong scent of rubber gloves and metal tools. 'Oh gosh, I'm at the vet..,' he gulped. "A..Arr?" Bitzer weakly yelped out to the farmer, "Shh. It's ok, boy. They're almost done, " the farmer hums, gently petting Bitzers head, "Try not to move too much, ok?" He continues.
Glancing down to his numb body, Bitzer stared at the bandages that were wrapped around his left arm, right leg, and torso. 'No wonder it hurts to move...' Bitzer huffs in annoyance to the itching that crawled around his bandages. "You don't have to worry about wearing a cone or anything" The farmer hums pulling Bitzer out from his thoughts, "You got bit up pretty bad, so you won't be able to move too much to bite at them anyway". Bitzer cringed at the thought. If Bitzer had a penny for the number of times he had to wear that annoying cone, he'd have two pennies, which wasn't a lot but still. The first time was when he hurt his foot with that TV the farmer accidentally dropped on him, the second time was for some shots. 'That's a relief...' Bitzer grumbled to himself. "Arr?" The dog barked, trying to motion when they'd leave with his working arm, "As soon as the vet hands me your medicine, " the farmer replies.
Opening the door, Bitzers ears perked up as the vet stepped inside, carrying a brown paper bag he handed it to the farmer who stood up from his seat. "Here you go, your dog is all good to go." The vet smiles beneath his thick white whiskers. "Oh good. Thank you, " the farmer smiles, nodding with respect, "Of course. Your dog is a very brave dog, " the vet hums, stepping over to Bitzers bedside. Petting Bitzers head, the vet glances up to the farmer from beneath his spectacles, "He'll recover in a couple of days. Just make sure he gets plenty of rest. And be sure to come back in two weeks, I want to see how his wounds are coming along." "Alright" the farmer nods. Bitzer watched as the farmer placed the medicine in his jackets pocket before gently lifting the dog up into his arms. "Good night, farmer." The vet waves watching as the farmer stepped out of the room, "Good night," the farmer nods.
~Heading back home.~
The car ride back was quiet. Midnight hovered over the land with only the moon, stars, and the farmers' headlights to guide the way. Adjusting in his seat, Bitzer turned to the farmer who was focused on the road outside. 'How's Timmy?' Bitzer barks,
"Who? Oh! The lamb? He's doing just fine. Just shaken up a bit, poor thing, " the farmer replies. 'And the rest of the flock?' Bitzer barks, "They're doing just fine. All you need to worry about is resting yourself," the farmer hums as they pull up to the Mossy Bottom Farm. "While you rest, I'll be taking care of the farm for you." The farmer yawned parking the truck by the house, "Just make sure you heal up quickly, Alright?. I still need you to help me around the farm. No one does a good job like you do. " The farmer winks as he pulls the key from the ignition, "Arr. " Bitzer barks, saluting with his good arm.Watching the farmer step out the truck, Bitzer sighs to himself, 'There goes my summer...I hope the sheep can manage without me in charge for a while..'. Pondering the thought of how the farmer might handle things alone, Bitzer froze in realization, 'I'm going to be sleeping alone again...'. Sinking in his seat, Bitzer sighs, 'I didn't mind the way Shaun slept so close to me...or the way the room filled with his breathing and not just my own....and I liked the way his wool smelled like me in the morning-' Pausing in his thoughts, Bitzer felt his heart sink, 'Did I really get that comfortable having Shaun stay at my place...' Bitzers thoughts hummed sadly, 'It wouldn't be so bad having him with me all the time'.
