Daphne never imagined a Mafia business would look as normal as this. It was like a typical business building with your standard offices throughout it, just more guards than other facilities would have. She thought it would be underground, but this was apparently the total of it.
Aurelio had top notch security, with thumb, face and ID recognition to get through the front door.
The whole place was packed with areas filled with guys. She tried avoiding eye contact with everyone, but it seemed they were avoiding her all together. They only gave a nod of respect to Aurelio without looking directly at him. She didn't see a single female and that made her wonder about what Mafia business he was running. Drugs? Illegal weaponry? Just casual assassinations? Black market tradings? Human trafficking? She felt herself stiffen at the last one. That would explain why there were no women.
She checked her comfortable feet as she nearly sprinted to keep up with Aurelio. He did buy her shoes on the way. When he insisted on going into the store alone, she didn't know what to expect of him to bring out. He had truly surprised her with his taste for shoes. It was lilac coloured Nike's and she loved them.
Some of the rooms had lounging area's with television's and speakers where the men played card games, drank at the fresh hours of ten in the morning and chatted away.
It was much cleaner than she imagined it being. Peaky Blinders must've given her the wrong impression.
Luca jogged up behind them. "Heya Daphne." She looked at him and replied. "Hello."
"Capo, le truppe sono appena arrivate e hanno detto che erano quasi state uccise. Stanno diventando più forti." (Boss the troops just came in and said that they were almost killed. They are getting stronger.) Luca said to Aurelio, showing him something on his phone and pointing toward the doorway. Aurelio's eyes stared out behind her and when she started to turn Aurelio forced her head away.
"Entreremo stasera. spara un po' al posto." (We'll go in tonight. Shoot the place up a bit.) Aurelio added in english and Daphne started listening in. "Get me a group of twenty five."
He took Daphne's hand and held it as they continued on their trip. "What were you looking at?"
"My men were ambushed at that warehouse." He looked back to make sure they weren't being watched. "And a few of those men were in the doorway."
"I am a certified nurse and did my practical hours, I've seen gruesome things." She defended herself.
"There were bombs involved. Their limbs were missing." He added and turned to her. "And you're not seeing stuff like that while I am still breathing." He continued walking, still holding her hand in his.
Aurelio stopped and dropped her hand when they come to an iron door and used both his arms to pry it open. Inside it looked like some sort of training room, like in Divergent.
There were only two guys inside, fighting each other. They stopped when Aurelio entered the room. "Fatti un giro!" Aurelio said to them and they both picked up their stuff and left the room in hurry. Did he just chase them away? How rude.
He walked over to a huge cupboard against the wall and swung the doors open. Daphne sucked in a breath. It was the biggest gun collection she'd ever seen before. She was utterly flabbergasted. Her mouth fell open. "Take your pick."
She looked at him and couldn't help the smile that came. Now she was all jittery with excitement. "Wait, has anyone ever been killed with these? I don't want to touch them then."
"No, these are for training." He said, pulling out a cigarette from his pants and lighting it up.
"What am I doing with my life?" She mumbled to herself taking the similar pistol, he gave her earlier, from the rack. She checked it out while he hands her the right bullets.
