Pitter patter.

The rain pounded on the rooftop, and the smell of wet grass and somber weather drifted through the windows held ajar.

The room was lit in ambient light by the candles, and Sakura sat facing the window, various scrolls from back home surrounding her. The cold nipped at her skin, and she adjusted the blanket on her legs, leaning back against Sasuke once done.

She could feel Sasuke sitting beside her, back to back, the heat seeping through their clothes. The mechanical sound of him sharpening his kunai was familiar in the way she recognised the familiar writing of her mother, the familiar intone of Ino's letter, almost as if she could hear the blonde's voice from where she sat all the way in The Land of Earth. She held close the scroll sent from Naruto addressed to both of them, his messy handwriting no more, as he recounted to her about the lecturing he gets daily from Iruka-sensei while studying for his Hokage duties to be inherited in the near future.

Sakura smiled to herself as she reread them all once more, flitting the words to her memory, tucking them close to her heart. A heart that was painfully remembering about her home back in The Land of Fire with longing.

She shifted forward to get her backpack tucked on the windowsill, moving back and instantly feeling the heat of Sasuke's back once more. He seemed to quite like this position. She pulled out a scroll and ink of her own, writing replies to each of her friends and family, ensuring her continued safety, and relating on some memorable parts of her journey.

"Are you not going to write back to Naruto?" she asked Sasuke, now in the process of tying the scrolls carefully.

The rhythmic motions of his hands did not falter as he replied, "no."

"He says to tell you to be more friendly."

"Hn, I am friendly."

Amused, she huffed silently as she tucked the scrolls away into her bag. She'd send them once the rain stopped and Taka was ready to fly through the soaring cold.

She leaned her head against the broad back of Sasuke, closing her eyes and getting lost in thoughts.

Her mother was once more complaining about her arthritis, and Sakura had replied back to go to Tsunade-sama to get some ointment creams. Her mother never seems to listen, claiming they only go away when she heals them.

The only thing Ino seemed to want to talk about nowadays was her budding relationship with Sai, and Sakura half heartedly wished she could be there to witness the usual flamboyant attitude shift around to a more demure one. She had never seen Ino be demure with anyone.

Hinata had also written, and the news, although not well known, Sakura wished she could  be there to personally see for herself. Of course, treating pregnant patients and never been her specialty, but she felt like that was the least thing she could do for her friend. Sakura had wished her friend congratulations, slipping one into Naruto's letter as well (from both her and Sasuke). Although Naruto had never mentioned it, she knew he would be bursting at the seams to tell his best friend the news. The news was his to share, and so, she decided she'd keep quiet about the topic to Sasuke.

So lost in her own head was Sakura, that she hadn't even noticed the silence ringing in the room. The rhythmic motion of Sasuke's hands had stopped.

Pitter patter.

Sakura opened her eyes, tilting her head toward Sasuke. He was staring down at his hands, bangs covering his face.

"Do you miss them?" his voice shattered the silence.

"Hmm?"

Sasuke turned slightly, catching her eyes. "I said, do you want to go back? To Konoha?"

Sakura sat back again, sighing slightly. His intuition was always on point. "Well, I do miss the hustle and bustle back in the village, but I'm not particularly in any rush to return yet."
