Roschelle Myers
Zane comes here every day, ordering the same cake and a coffee to go and leaving hundred-dollar tips. He and I always seem to be laughing, talking, and smiling at each other. It’s not a bad thing, but I don’t want to get close to a guy like him. Yeah, he may be attractive, handsome, and funny, but I don’t want to be close to him. I need to keep my distance. Reason being my history with people.
Back in high school, I had a few friends. Kayla, Anne and Eve. All of us were extremely close. Kayla was known for her looks. Dirty blonde, long wavy hair, icy- blue eyes, never wore makeup but always looked like she did because she had natural long eyelashes, thick brows a good shape to match her face, and her cheeks always having a natural blush. Anne was known as the smart chick in our school.
She had shoulder length, straight light brown hair, Big round shaped glasses that were too big for her face but always made her look cute and which added to her beauty and only wore blush as her everyday makeup. Eve was always the bad girl, always getting into trouble. She had straight, jet-black hair and had every guy in the school falling head over heels for her. She had a face full of makeup for a whole week and then no makeup for the next week, all depending on her mood.
Eve wasn’t that close to us. But the other two and I never really bothered as we were just used to it. They were my everything until, eventually, they all got their interest in guys. Anne turned into another but worse version of Eve.
She started going to parties, having sex with random guys and all that shit. Kayla still stayed with me a while until she heard a rumor saying I was telling everyone she was a slut for Brendan, her crush. And then she told everyone my embarrassing secrets, told everyone I’ve slept with their boyfriends which was a lie, and then became one of the ‘Pinkies’. The Pinkies were the most popular girls in the school and were always jealous of Eve. They wore pink everyday it blinded me when I looked at them.
That’s also the reason I hate the color pink
And then Eve...She cut all communication before the group split. So, in summary, I just don’t want to lose Zane and trust him so easily because who knows, maybe he could just use the money for tips he’s giving me as a sabotage and then later, he says I need to owe him back. Or maybe he will tell his bike gang I’m a huge slut. Or tell people I’m a lousy lay. I don’t know but I have to keep my distance.
On my way to work I think of all the ways I’m going to avoid him and every possible conversation stopper.
I reach the inside and see him already sitting there chatting to Harry. I wondered why he was he this early since he never came here at... I look at my watch to check the time.
