I'm inlove. Genuinely. I haven't actually met a girl who makes me feel this way before and it's going to drive me crazy.

Maybe it already has.

As soon as she leaves my apartment, I sigh and plop on my bed, unknowingly smiling.

I stare up at my ceiling as I go over our entire hangout, if you'd call it that.

Her smile when she walked in made my heart pound quicker then lightning.

Shes exactly my type.

Absolutely gorgeous, funny, smart, AND she can write a book? I call dibs.

I pull out my sketchbook. My sad, torn up sketchbook. I open it up, there's about 6 pages left.

I go to the most recent one and sit criss-cross-applesauce on my bed while putting my pencil on the page.

At that moment, I wasn't even drawing, my mind was. I have no photos of her. No reference pictures. I had nothing but the thought of her in my mind. And that is what I drew.

I remember her gorgeous blonde hair, the way it fell past her shoulders in slight waves. And her warm brown eyes. And full lips. And beautiful features. And everything about her.

I let my hand and brain take control. I close my eyes and the pencil flies across the page.

I finish and look at it proudly. It's her. A rough drawing of a beautiful woman.

I smile slightly at the drawing before setting it down on my nightstand.

I lie down back on my bed and flip off my lamp. I close my eyes and fall asleep with the thought of Leilani in my head.

~~~
I wake up the next morning at 11:32 am.
Okay not too bad.
I go to my bathroom and screech silently at the light change. I brush my teeth and lay out my hair in the best way.
I then drive all the way down to my favorite cafes in New York.
I sit down and order my go-to. Carmel Macchiato.
I just love that damn caramel.
I pull out my phone and go to calming music.
I put in my airpods and close my eyes as I hit play. The calm sweet music and absolutely nothing can ruin-
"Ryder?"
I look over and take the airpod out of my ear. I smile. "Hey Leilani."
She has her hair in two french braids, having some brown coming out of the top. She seems to be wearing those things called tube tops and sweatpants. Gorgeous.
She sits next to me and gets comfortable.
"Do you come here often?"
I nod and look at my drink. "Yeah, everyday."
Leilani says a silent, 'wow' before pulling out her wallet. "What did you get?"
I take a sip and look at her. "Carmel Macchiato."
She freezes and looks at me. "Did you just say....car-mel?"
I laugh and nod. "Mhm."
She scoffs jokingly. "Oh go to hell. It's ever so obviously pronounced "CARAmel."
I scoff. "Sure sure, how middle-eastern of you."
She laughs and orders the same thing as me, though she says it wrong.
"So," Leilani starts. "Why do you come here."
I glance at her. "To work out and drink beer. Obviously to get coffee."
She smiles. "Okay okay! Sassy man huh?"
I nod. "You know it."
I laugh and take another sip. "I just like to unwind before the day starts. Then I get winded up again until I draw. Then I unwind again."
She stares at me while I talk. Good listener.
"Why are you here?" I ask politely.
She shrugs. "To unwind."
I smirk and nod, turning my head forwards as I take another sip, soon to be my last, of my macchiato.
"So where did you come from?" She stares out the window and plays with one of her braids.
"Connecticut. You?"
I bob my head. "Michigan."
~~~

I learn more about her. I learn she has a best friend named Lia, who she adores. Along with two siblings Reggie and Luna. She's smack dab in the middle.

She has a fear of the dark, which is totally understandable, and tight paces.

I fill her in on my own things. I have a younger sister named Mia, who is graduating this year.

She's the only family I mention. I say nothing about my dad or mom because well, we're not that close yet. And Mia's the only one I call family.

I tell her about my goals and fears. I tell her about my schooling and interests.

She listens to everything. Not once taking her eyes off me. It made me feel special.

I check the clock. 12:46. Shit. I have to go.

"This was nice, but I need to go. I have work."

She nods and smiles at me while I throw away my cup.

"Bye bye Lani."

I turn around and scream inside.

Where did that confidence come from?

I smile at the nickname I gave her and laugh mischievously as I walk out the door.
