I'm in my room at my house and I'm almost done packing. My mom calls up to me.

"Leilani! Are you almost done?"

I yell back down. "Yep, finishing touches!"
Just as I say that I zip up my suitcase.

I just graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut around a month ago, just after my 22nd birthday, and I stayed at my parents house for a while before moving to New York.

"Leilani!" My mom calls up again.

I roll my eyes and pick up my suitcase before running down the stairs. "I'm coming!"

I come downstairs and both my parents are waiting for me. When they see me, their faces break out into smiles.

"Oh my baby..." My mom says while smothering me in kisses.

"Mom...I-I know." I laugh out.

When my mom stopped suffocating me, my dad turns to me with a smile. "I'm real proud of you, bug." I smile at the nickname and give him a hug as well.

As soon as I finish packing eveything into my car, I settle in.

My mom kneels by my window. "Make sure to be safe. Did you bring your pepper spray? Be very careful."

"Mom. I know. And I love you guys." I say as I start to pull out of their driveway.

I watch them, my dads arm around my mothers shoulder while waving goodbye to me.

Once I pull out of my old neighborhood, the nerves start to strike me.

This is real. My thoughts tell me as I slowly realize what's happening.

I'm moving out and going to be an adult.

I take a shaky breath as I drive calmly.

To calm down my nerves, I call my best friend, Lia Adams.

Lia is gorgeous. She has ginger floppy hair and an indie aesthetic. She's confident and a queen and her voice is weirdly relaxing.

"Heyyy!" Her relaxing voice blasts through my car. "How's the trip so far?"

"Well for 4 miles away from my home it's going good." She laughs. "Only....96 more to go."

I sigh. "It's not even that bad at all, I don't know why I'm so nervous."

She laughs again. "You're going to be an adult. An actual adult. It's gonna be scary."

I nod. "I guess. How's Vermont?"

Lia is graduating from Burlington University this year and majored in computer science.

"It's alright. Can't wait to graduate though."

I laugh. "It's in August right? 2 more months."

She groans and I chuckle.

Lia and I talk for a while. School, driving, memories, you know what I mean.

Finally, the forbidden topic came up.

"So," she says. "You think you'll find a boy?"

I groan. "Not this again."

"Come on Leilani! What if you do? And you'll fall inlove and get married and-."

"Alright alright I get the jist." I cut her off.

It's not that I don't like boys, it's just that I'm not very good with them. In highschool I fumbled a guy because I said one wrong thing.

I'm just not good at the talking part in talking stage.

"Whatever though, I gotta go, love you!" Lia says. "Love you too." And now my road trip is silent.

~~~
The rest of it was good. I got some Mcdonalds and blasted Chase Atlantic for as long as I can remember, when I finally got to New York.
I pull into Hudson Crossing Apartments and take a deep breath. This is my parking spot for a while.
I get out of my car and walk into the building. As I do, I gasp. It it absolutely gorgeous. White walls and black furniture.
Basically, it was very aesthetic.
I walk up to the woman at the front desk.
"Hello, room 403 please, name under Leilani Thatcher?"
The woman stares at her computer and nods before handing me keys. "Here you are, enjoy it."I smile at her before going to the elevators.
I wait patiently as the elevator moves weirdly slow. Finally, I make it to the fourth floor.
As I start to walk out, I run into someone. "My apologies ma'am." I glance up and my words are eaten away.
In front of me is the most beautiful man I've ever seen. Curly brown hair that matches his eyes, clear skin, and absolutely gorgeous features. "Hmm? Oh, it's alright." He smiles at me before the elevator doors close. I laugh to myself. That man was amazing.
~~~

I keep walking until I get to the room with the numbers, 403 on it. I take a breath before walking inside. I gasp.

Gorgeous white walls with just the perfect paintings hung up. Average sized kitchen and an empty room. I take all my stuff out and grab the mattress. Eh I'll buy a frame later.

I decide to do all the decorating tomorrow as I'm already tired, so I lay out my mattress and put down a blanket and pillow.

I lie on my bed before closing my eyes and drifting off to a wondrous sleep. _______________________________
