PROLOGUE
One foot in front of the other. Left, right, left, right. Keep going. That was Misa's mantra as she put more and more distance between her; and them. After a solid half an hour she gave herself permission to look behind her; to scan her eyes along the vast, empty road. She watched for any sign of movement that could symbolise, ‘they’ were there. The trees swayed in synchronisation on either side of the rode. Almost, as if they were dancing to the cool wind that blew between their branches; ruffled their delicate leaves. Apart from that; nothing.
She sighed in longing, why could she not be a tree, as her eyes swept across the beautiful oaks, her eyes stopping on a small, runty, most definitely weak tree. It must have only been twice Misa’s size, and for a tree that species, that was small. From the colour of its bark; it was probably one of the oldest of the trees, but unlike the others, this one was waiting for the right time to grow. This one here knew something special was coming its way.
This was what defined Misa from other people; while others would walk straight past that tree, she saw what others didn’t, she saw the indentations in the tree that showed animals lived there, she saw the vibrant green leaves, much prettier than the other trees. That showed her that though that particular tree was small; it still thrived. And seeing that tree gave Misa a new sense of hope.
If that tiny tree could survive among all those large ones, so could she. She could survive against her large ‘trees’ too. Picking up her feet she continued running, in no particular direction, just running down the empty road, but this time, she had hope. And hope was all Misa needed.

Three hours later Misa saw a barn. This was obviously herding land and so she knew there must be water and necessities at the barn. Gathering all the energy she could muster, her tiny body finally reached the homely and most welcome, barn. Opening the door she collapsed as soon as she made it outside the cold. Closing her eyes, Misa slowly drifted into a deep sleep.

“Ow!” “ DO you think she’s here?!”
Misa turned in her sleep and bolted up when her woozy mind finally recognised the voices. It couldn’t be; could it? She lifted her sore body off the hard floor and searched for a window that she could look through; or escape from. As quiet as she could possibly go, Misa tiptoed to the source of the noise. As she rounded the small corner a stifled gasp escaped her mouth as she saw ‘His’ head looking through the window. Dropping to the floor, she watched in terror as his face turned to where she had just been standing.
After doing one more scan of the room ‘his’ face disappeared from the window. Misa didn’t move for another minute. Slowly standing, she turned towards the door and gasped as the knob twisted. There; standing in the doorway, was ‘him’.
“There you are Misa.” Shaking her head Misa ran and hid in the boxes, where he couldn’t see her. She listened as she heard footsteps approaching.
“Wherrreee are you? You can run, but you can’t hide.”
