Chapter two.

--⧗--

I woke up to the older widow from yesterday, who I've now learned her name is Inez, shaking me. My mission is today, and I'm really nervous. I've never been to New York and going to a new place normally wouldn't be that bad, however, I'm doing it all by myself. Dreykov also said this mission is extremely important, so I cannot mess this up. I'm more advanced than a lot of widows in the red room, which gives him even higher expectations for me.

Dreykov says I'm "special." I'm not sure why, maybe because I'm at a higher level than most girls my age, but I'm not the only widow who's been exceptional. I have gone to Hydra several times, which I'm pretty sure most girls haven't done. Although I cannot recall my time there, I can remember returning feeling different. My hands always feel weird and tingly, and my mind is just so foggy. I feel like there's something I'm missing. Something I haven't been told, but then again, I've been lied to my whole life so it really shouldn't be a surprise.

I gather mostly everything I need for my time in New York. I shouldn't be there for long, so I only grab a couple of weapons and my mission file. I wonder what it'll be like over there. Maybe it's hot, or maybe there's pretty beaches. I wish I could run on a beach whenever I want. I wish I could be free.

I'm not supposed to feel this way, which is confusing. The red room is my home. I grew up in this place, I should be thankful for Dreykov and the chance I was given. So why am I feeling this way? I can't say anything about it though, because I might get brainwashed again. I don't like not being in control of my own body and mind, but who would? I just want to be normal.

"Anastasiya, it's time to go." I kind of forgot Inez was in the room with me.

Just as I was about to speak, Inez says, "Before we leave, Dreykov was requesting to see you. Come back here after, i'll be here waiting." I nod, setting my stuff down and thanking her.

Why would Dreykov need me in his office again? I'm still skeptical of him being nice. Maybe this is all a trick, and I'm going to Hydra again. I don't wanna go back there. Can't trust anything in this place.

I arrive at his office for the second day in a row, and knock at his door. It suddenly opens and I see Dreykov standing in the middle of the room. I slowly walk over to him, carefully observing my surroundings.

"I was told you needed to see me, sir?" I stand there, waiting for him to say something.

"Ah, Anastasiya." He turns to face me and smiles, making my stomach churn. "Yes, I have something for you." He walks over to his desk and opens a drawer, pulling out a small box. "Here, open it." He urges, practically shoving it into my hands.

I look at it confused, and after a minute I grab the box. It has a weird rough texture. It feels like scales, and it's black. Almost like leather, but a box.

I slowly open it to see a silver black widow shaped spider. This is weird. Really weird. Dreykov is never this kind. I look back up at him, still holding the tiny box in my hands.

"Go ahead, put it on." He says while doing a bunch of random hand motions to try and convince me. I comply, not wanting to make him mad. I'm still very confused, widows aren't supposed to wear jewelry, since we don't really have access to shops. So why am I getting a necklace?

After I put it on, I look at Dreykov to see him smiling very big. Why is he so happy? This is too confusing right now. I just wanna go back to sleep. I clear my throat, resisting the urge to run out of the room right now. "Thank you sir, Its very beautiful." I smile, trying to hurry up and leave.
